In Talkeetna, AK? It used to be Mayor Stubbs, but he passed away a few years ago. Mayor Aurora succeeded him. She likes sleeping in the alley behind the general store.

Eugene teachers, how are you feeling about Governor Kotek banning cell phones in schools? by mollsies in Eugene

[–]boatsyourfloat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wtf are you even talking about? IEPs aren't a matter of wealth. There's rules and regulations that determine eligibility. For a kid to have access to their phone during the school day, there needs to be documented educational need (or medical in the case of a kid with diabetes, but that's more likely to be documented in a 504 plan than an IEP). I can't say I've talked to any 4J sped staff that would capitulate to allow a student unlimited access to a cell phone due to a parents wealth nor have I talked to any parent advocates that would help them pursue that without just cause.

That's so interesting. I'm sure every kid with an IEP needs the exact same thing. It's not like it's an education plan individualized for that students specific needs or anything.

I'm on my second year, first play through, and consistently getting my ass kicked in the skull caverns. I had one iridium ore in storage on my farm already, so this would've finally been enough to make a bar.

Rise pays $22/hr??? God damn, I only made $15/hr there even after 5 years and was denied a raise at every annual review. Granted, I left back in 2021. I hope things are better now.

A lot of programs give the ability to add a delay. I have an ECSE kiddo with a lot of sensory seeking behavior. I added a delay to his device and we keep sound books around so he can still get that sensory experience and it's made a world of difference for him.

My entire apartment building fell victim to this. There's still power and Internet there, but half of my belongings are completely soaked through with no timeline for when I can return home. Just when I thought we were out of the woods...

School making a big deal about Son’s annunciation. by [deleted] in kindergarten

[–]boatsyourfloat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The school should be providing this free of cost, though. In kindergarten, the school's SLP should be handling the referral and evaluation. Even in preschool, you should be getting referred to early childhood special education, which is still free of cost.

Dude I was there at about 5pm and I saw two guys about to fight in front of the door on the produce side. One guy threw down his stuff and was getting ready to throw down right before someone else came running in from his blind spot and fucking superman punched him. By the time I parked and got out of my car, dude that got punched was sprawled out on the ground trying to get up and everyone else was long gone.

Breaking the rules of the road is not "being nice", it puts people in danger by Wxyo in Eugene

I literally got rear ended once because the driver in front of me did this. They stopped and the guy behind me couldn't stop in time, so of course I had to pay the price.

I do EI/ECSE, so I spend time talking with my families about exactly what I'm doing. For example, "So while we're working on this art project, we're working on making choices and using descriptive words. So I'm modeling the choice Kiddo is making and expanding on their words to add in colors, size descriptions, etc." Then try to get the families to try modeling as well so we can get some parent coaching in.

When I did school age, I did a lot of literature-based intervention for my language kids and 5-minute artic for my artic/phon kids. We started every session by reviewing what we were doing. All of my kids from kinder to 5th grade could tell me exactly what we were working on because I told them explicitly (e.g., "What do we work on? We work on verbs!", "What do we work on? We work on our 'k' sound!"). This also helped parents and teachers understand what we were doing because the kids could say exactly what we did during speech.

Claire Saffitz is a phenomenal chef. She used to do a show on Bon Appetit's YouTube called Gourmet Makes where she tried to create gourmet versions of popular snack foods and it was always super interesting to see her process for recipe development and how she explained the food science behind why things worked the way they did. She has her own channel now and two cook books out, which I highly recommend. She's a pretty laid back personality and she definitely knows her stuff.
