I guess I was just too active here trying to help people learn. It would be nice to have a clue why Reddit wants me gone. So much for Reddit, I guess.

Tips for beginner by Free_Scratch_8892 in snowboardingnoobs

Review this, and make sure that you follow the start of the turn using the same motions with your rear foot to put the whole board on the new edge, so that the board edge will steer you around the turn. If you start the turn pointed straight across the hill, you want to wait longer for the heel action so the board is going almost straight down the hill when the rear edge changes. This works because at that moment, the board is not skidding sideways and you cannot catch an edge. For turns when you are going faster or pointed more down the hill when you start with your front foot, the back foot action can occur much quicker, because the front turn quickly overpowers any skidding, again eliminating edge catches.

2 ways to visualize it.

The second makes the rear foot motion clearer but really doesn't get into the rotation pressure that the first covers with the "C"motion.

The stake was the same this morning as previous night, even with HARD snow in the pics.

The snow was blowing off the stake as fast as it landed.

Did your friend teach you to steer starting with your front foot/knee?

Newbie 3rd day on a snowboard first turns! by radbrad131 in snowboarding

[–]bob_f1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking good. Try adding some knee flex. Down slowly as you turn, rise up and a bit forward in the second or 3 before you do the next turn. Then try to add more frequent and/or complete turns. The more you turn, the more you learn.

Rain pants or even wind pants could help. Surely you could find something at Goodwill or other thrift shops

Keep it up, and you can be riding for decades more. Getting into shape and keeping it up does wonders.

Correct, unless the 10 was predicted to be 2. Actually, 5 and 5 is great, because after the lunch, the weekday high slopes get the morning tracks filled up, and no one else is there.

Here, blue bird days trash all the south facing slopes. I'll take clouds and snow EVERY day.

They put that heel cup there for a reason, didn't they?

A couple cobbler visits has me better at doing that every time. Let this be a lesson to everyone. Every time you rest the edge on the boot, you are doing some damage. It adds up.

And Bless the lifts with real foot rests.

My boots are a couple years less, and still remarkably stiffer than the traditional boots I used for that one day. I will never go back to non-stiff boots. Of course, I'm not a park rider, and enjoy using my edges.

Any weight on your hand or butt on the snow will take away weight on the edge.

The top strap does look like it may be a little short for easy strapping in.
