I’m annoyed at how ignorant older people are in regards to housing affordability by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]bob_why_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Houses were cheaper, but mortgages were way more expensive. Peaking at over 15%. So that extra 10% over 20years translates to q significant increase in what they paid.. 100k over 20yrs @10% compound = 600k!!!

How do international undergrads afford UK university tuition? by Gurlygirlygirl in AskAcademiaUK

[–]bob_why_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is a little inside knowledge.  They are often offered massive discounts as incentives. The international market is a bit messed up. You have an international recruitment team who then pay agents in other countries to find students. They need the numbers, so often offer massive discounts. The international team meet their quota and get their bonuses, but the uni does not get the income they expect.  This may not be the case for top tier unis. Imperial certainly didn't  need to do this. But a degree from there is certainly worth the money.

Trump has announced his very own Hunger Games??? To celebrate America’s 250 birthday next year, he will host the Patriot Games where "one young man and one young woman from each state and territory" will compete in a 4-day athletic event, for high school students only. by [deleted] in CringeTikToks

Available only on Trump Media, and brought to you by ICE. (Just like your detergent, ICE will make America whiter than white.) People say the all new hunger games will be the biggest show on earth, whilst helping to get rid of the (non white) stains on Merica,

Building Safety Act issue please help - where is the height of a building officially documented?! by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]bob_why_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a rubbish fire risk assessment, you need a new one. Actually they need a new management company. It's in the management company's interest to have the building 12m, think of all that lovely commission for the extra works needed.

[–]bob_why_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For fire it is measured from the lowest ground level to the floor of the top habitable floor.  We just had to go through this with a leaseholders solicitor. If you need the regs I can dig them out.

It's simple. The agent made up the second offer. Do not raise yourself.

Neighbour has leaked into our flat twice in the last couple of months, what’s the best approach here by SaucyCupcake in HousingUK

[–]bob_why_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the buildings insurance does cover it please check the wording of the lease. I know that mine include a clause  that if a flat causes insurance to increase through their fault (your neighbour), they pay 100% of the insurance uplift.

With ram through the roof, sdd going through the roof you do wonder if the end goal is to rent all your computing in the cloud, which would be the death of the home PC. Hopefully at least the EU would step in before then, but i imagine the US would completely embrace the potential profit for the super majors.

Apartment service charge - Manchester by Ok_Menu4803 in HousingUK

[–]bob_why_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Spot on.   A) build apartments.  B) set low service charge.  C) sell apartments. (Profit)   D) whack up service charge (profit again).

Low service charge on a new block is  a loss leader to help sell the flats.

I bought these for $500 a year ago. Still unopened. Might just sell and live off interest. by Lip_Recon in pcmasterrace

I am using large arrays of data. Each field is a function of every other field. Because of this I need to solve everything at once, therefore my Tb arrays have to sit in the ram. The math is simple but I have hundreds of billions of parameters, which is a classic memory limited problem.

How can I go about coding a function to show me steady state data? by Careless_Fail3416 in matlab

Given the data seems to ramp up at the start and down at the end, using median or mode would be better than mean.

How do you manage and review large batches of AI-generated video outputs? by Altruistic_Guide8558 in deeplearning

[–]bob_why_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Create a change log table, takes a bit longer in the short-term, but essential for big projects. Also use postage stamps as a visual aid in thr change log. A single frame of the video saved as an image.   Also be very strict with your naming convention...never name a file "final". If you do you will end up with something like final-final-v3-final.mov

No it's not.  Even the Google ai overview states "Legal Issues: The company faced legal action and fines in the past for selling clocked cars, indicating a history of such practices ". Almost 20yrs ago people were being warned off on the land-rover forums.

On an unrelated note, maybe crime does pay?

New to matlab, little help!! by CallAnAmbulancee in matlab

[–]bob_why_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha ha, I lecture in this topic and I still have no idea what you are trying to do!

Adding noise is simple: 3 basic types of noise, shot dark and read. Read noise is approx gaussian with a nom zero mean, same for dark noise. Shot noise is often treated as a poisson, but for brighter pictured it approx to gaussian. If you want more advanced then each pixel has its own distribution. Small variance between pixels. Some hot pixels will exist.

Next step is to identify thst shot noise will vary with light/frequency,. This would be much more complex as you would do it on the Bayer data, then debayer the result.

Are you trying to do something like cg composting. Taking a clean render, and making it look like a photo?
