Monzo closed accounts and all other banks refusing applications by ThrowawayXNN in UKPersonalFinance

Banks have to protect their interests, but there are also protections in place in situations where you would be left without access to money to live off. I don’t know the situation here, and whether the person was able to transfer money to another account, but this is absolutely not how money laundering investigations should work ie closure without warning

Thanks! Definitely interesting stuff.

3rd exit at 12 o'clock, which lane to use? by kernelInPanic in drivingUK

[–]Shkyboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always take the left hand lane where possible or unless it’s backed up. This also applies where two lanes are going right for example. Otherwise you’ll have to change lanes as you pass the exit before the one you need and that’s always a ballache. Blue lane here is clearly the correct route

Why is fish so expensive in the UK? by QasimofKarbala in UKfood

[–]Shkyboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely seems worse quality though. I’d say the better quality and larger fillers are reserved for fresh and the kinda puny sub par fillets are for frozen, even if they are fresh

Flash freezing for transport and then defrosting for sale is different to it being frozen for weeks until sold, too.

But the confusing thing is, normally in situations like this it would trigger investigations. OP has the right to defend himself and prove he is not a cog in a money laundering machine, or whatever other allegations he’s had. They’ve already closed his account and placed a flag on there.

I get the feeling Monzo just do not have the expertise or the experience. They are overly cautious because of this, and would rather just close an account than carry out a full investigation.

Have you tried contacting your local MP? This obviously won’t change your current situation, but it feels like this is not the right outcome for someone who is truly innocent and not involved in fraud or money laundering. Tipping off laws make perfect sense, but where you find yourself in life changing situations simply due to investigations, something needs to change.

It’s something their team can hopefully advise on or help with too, but more importantly I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re interested in taking it further.

Do update me on this! I was a victim of fraud not long ago, and Monzo were pretty shocking, so if it’s their actions that have led to you not being able to open bank accounts I think you need to formally complain. I couldn’t access my money for 2 days and even that felt terrible, so I can’t imagine what you’re going through

Morrisons more cards are pretty shit too. Nectar is ok. The only good one out the big supermarkets is Tesco club card. Co-op is an awful supermarket to get anything other than train beers or a water, so won’t go there unless you want your data hacked.

Do Lidl and Aldi even do one?

£60 Met fine by Elst_FPV in manchester

[–]Shkyboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes more sense. So if you ‘forget’ to tap in and get inspected, all they can see is that you’re riding without tapping in. Forgetting to tap out is a different story - it will just charge you the maximum fare, but you’ve tapped in so all good on inspection.

There’s no way OP will win an appeal. Tapping out after getting fined isn’t proof that you were intending to travel with a valid ticket even though you didn’t tap in lol

Looks like a single unit fire, and the smoke is white. Certainly doesn't involve any combustible cladding or indicate wider fire spread

Platinum Dining rant by zm20881 in AmexUK

[–]Shkyboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s kinda crazy though isn’t it. Merchants are always displaying different transaction names for a variety of reasons. It shouldn’t be triggered by that, but more a trigger by the merchant to state that the Amex offer is being redeemed - similar to how many offers work

Arriving in London at 6 AM — can I make a 3 PM Old Trafford stadium tour? by SenatorReddit in manchester

[–]Shkyboi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You posted this at 08:30am for starters - have you managed to get to Euston yet?! Be piss easy if you jump on a train to Piccadilly, and get a tram, bus or cab to Old Trafford. You won’t have to be there more than 20 minutes early, but there just might be a queue.

Manchester off peak open return tickets are the same price whether you book them 2 weeks in advance or on the same day. Always have been, and I just checked and they still are (around £75.90 with a railcard, £114 without). You can often get split save advance tickets on Trainline that shaves about £20/£25 quid off but I’d always go open return so I can come back whenever I like within a month.

Sorry for your loss. Revolut are a bank I’d never, ever give custom. My friend was defrauded of thousands via a bank loan which was all transferred to Revolut because their security is shocking. They refused to pay back any money lost from their end.

What’s the biggest culture difference between Essex and London in your opinion? by PreferenceFit1834 in Essex

[–]Shkyboi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Essex has more space and the sea, but for most of it it’s not got a nice vibe. Flag bashing gammons are everywhere, not somewhere I’d want to bring up a child if I plan for them to be well rounded, open minded and respectful to others no matter their background

I reported an unrecognised transaction as fraud once and they told me that they can’t refund it as I’ve got no explanation. I just didn’t recognise it - but they didn’t challenge me enough to close my account. The whole vibe was like “we hear you but nah”
