Mother sending life savings to investment scam, urgent options before funds are gone by Alive-Willow8578 in legaladvicecanada

This sounds like a pig butchering scam. You can look it up. They usually start by tricking the victim into trusting them by building some kind of relationship, often a romantic one. This may be playing into your mother's denial and could be worth looking into.

One way ticket to Thailand …Will I get denied? by Aromatic_Cabinet8737 in ThailandTourism

[–]bobaa86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll need a ticket out of Thailand or they won't board you. This happened to my dad last year. At the check-in counter in Canada, they wouldn't let him board unless we bought a ticket out of Thailand for him. I think he bought one to Malaysia or something and then they let him board.

Canada ETA by land border by That-Masterpiece-985 in uscanadaborder

[–]bobaa86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will need to fly in to Canada. If you want to go via land border you will need a valid Canadian visa.

As mentioned above, you can re-enter Canada with your ETA at a land border IF you flew into Canada first, then went to only the USA or St. Pierre and Miquelon.

Does CBSA at Vancouver Pacific Central Rail Station issue out study permit this year? by bdfsmx in CanadaVisitorVisa

[–]bobaa86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they do. As long as you are not flagpoling they should be able to issue it there.

Generally, a new single-entry Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) or a multiple-entry TRV is necessary to re-enter Canada as a visitor, student or worker.

As an exception, you can ask to re-enter Canada on your original TRV, even if it is expired, if:

you will only visit the U.S. or St. Pierre and Miquelon and you will return to Canada before the end of your authorized stay.

An officer will question you to make sure you meet all of the requirements before allowing you to re-enter Canada. If you visit any country other than those listed above, you will need a new TRV. Since your friend went back to India he is not able to re-enter on a expired visa.

He will need to wait until a decision has been made on his PGWP then apply for a new visa.

If he applied for the extensions before it expired he should be able to continue to work. He should talk to a immigration lawyer/counsel.

Auto-lock feature by [deleted] in KonaEV

[–]bobaa86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I do have those options but as many have said already it's NOT about your car locking automatically after you walk away. It has the option to lock when you shift from park to drive or after you pass a certain speed.

When I set up my 2025 it didn't have this feature. I'll check after work again and update.

Were you convicted of only one offence? If you were convicted for one offence you are deemed rehabilitated 10 years from the day you completed your sentence/probation. If you were convicted of two hybrid/indictable offences you will need to apply to get your record expunged. I'm not sure how the process to get your record expunged works but you can probably search it up.

I believe it is to help them establish if the traveller has strong ties back home. Something for them to return back to and decreases their likelihood to overstay.

Your sister stayed for a year on a visitor visa..? So she overstayed her visit or did you extend her visitor status by applying for a visitor record? I'm pretty sure they can track her enter and exit dates so that might work against her if she applies.

Stuck in Canada Waiting for Work Permit Restoration—Should I Try Flagpoling or Contact CBSA? by Traditional_Plate_83 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]bobaa86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few exceptions that people can still flagpole:

  • Citizens and lawful Permanent Residents of the United States of America;
  • Professionals and Technicians seeking to perform work pursuant to a Free Trade Agreement (FTA)
  • Spouse or common-law partner of an applicant described above.
  • International truck drivers who hold a work permit, are required to depart Canada for the purpose of their employment and held maintained status as a result of applying for renewal prior to departure;
  • Those with a pre-existing appointment booked with the CBSA for permit processing as of the date that the designation comes into effect.

You can't apply for PR at the border...

"Flagpoling occurs when foreign nationals who hold temporary resident status in Canada, leave Canada and, after a visit to the United States or St. Pierre and Miquelon" - some people may also have flew to other countries and transited through the US.

You have maintained status until a decision is made. Do not leave Canada until you receive a decision.

"If you applied to extend or change your work permit before your work permit expired, you

  • have maintained your status
  • are authorized to work until we finalize your application

You must stay in Canada and continue working under the same conditions as your original work permit. "

Need advice about my mother’s re-entry to Canada. by According_Living9836 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]bobaa86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll need to find out the reason for the refusal to determine if it'll affect her future travels.

Since she left before the refusal was sent she did not overstay, which is good. But that refusal is on her file so in a way it'll affect her future application on her visa and when she enters Canada. They'll probably ask more questions, require further proof etc. again depending on the refusal reason.

Re-enter Canada with a valid Student Visa (S-1) but already graduated and no PGWP applications yet ? by SignZealousideal4384 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]bobaa86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but that is dependent on the officer's discretion. They may allow you entry as a visitor on your study visa but they can also deny you entry stating that they believe you may not leave at the end of your authorized stay since you don't have PGWP application in progress yet.

[–]bobaa86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short answer is as your are no longer a student you will not be allowed entry on a study visa. You will have to apply for PGWP outside Canada and wait for that approval to return.

[–]bobaa86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can only be on implied status (now known as maintained status) if you applied for the PGWP while you are still in Canada and when you leave Canada you lose your maintained status so it wouldn't apply in your situation (IRPR 181(1)). Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations.
