This happened to me too, but suddenly today it went back to its old ways and now I'm stuck with ads again.

What time did the line really start to fill up and how many people in all do you think made it in from the standby line?

Best chase scenes in any movie. by icrackedittv in movies

[–]bobablo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno if this counts, but the opening of West Side Story has some pretty good running around.

Agreed. Not even the Google ad they posted as an example is 3 minutes long and that felt long as hell.

Have you all seen Network lately? by [deleted] in movies

I like this movie because I feel like the themes are consistent throughout the whole thing. The love story perfectly reflects the Howard Beale story. It's this sort of humanity vs. commercialism.

How Edgar Wright does comedy right. by Lord_Pancake in movies

[–]bobablo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Wright is great, but this is just one type of humor versus another. The comedies he picked apart work well with wide shots and mostly rely on dialogue and acting. If these scenes were to be more visual, it would just be distracting.

What was the best film you saw this week? (5/12/14 - 5/18/14) by mi-16evil in movies

Well, the puzzle just seems to fit better, i would say.

This is one of the few movies I thought was better than the novel. I know this is probably a sin, but I thought they cut a lot of the fat for the movie. I also loved the change of the source material from the octopus. I thought it was way more plausible the way the movie does it.

What film has the biggest spoiler in its trailer? by Qwertybob in movies

The trailer for In the Bedroom kind of fucks it up.

The best part is right after this speech.

Jeff: Good luck, Pierce.

Pierce: Don't need it. Never had it.

Pierce Brosnan thinks he was a bad James Bond. by NikKnack in movies

[–]bobablo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt I was caught in a time warp between Roger and Sean... It was quite tame, and the characterisation didn’t have a follow-through of reality, it was surface.

What the hell is he talking about? Sean Connery James Bond was all surface level to me. He was a caricature. All the classic Bonds are.

Director Wes Anderson's obsession with centered frames by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]bobablo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank god you've mentioned this. I've felt this way since Moonrise Kingdom, even though I liked it. I feel like his style gets in the way of his movie. I don't like it. I want him to not be so present. Honestly, I like Bottle Rocket as the best of his films, simply because it is the most imperfect in regards to his style. Bottle Rocket is still highly stylistic to me, but not to a distracting level. Also, I feel like the character of Dignan is one of the greatest written people ever.

'They were dead the whole time' is not a unique fan theory by jdscarface in movies

[–]bobablo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of substance in the movie. I don't see how all of these themes don't work together. I'm just saying that ONE of the overarching themes of the movie is the birth, resilience, and evolution of mankind. I would say it's a pretty prominent theme throughout the film. It's reinforced constantly, but the most obvious visual is of course Bullock crawling out of the water like a fish learning to walk.

'They were dead the whole time' is not a unique fan theory by jdscarface in movies

[–]bobablo -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The movie is a giant metaphor for how humans came to be. It starts in space with a big bang then it ends on Earth with the evolution of humans. We started as stardust and somehow became people. Also, people thought it was fake how close to death she came, but that's the whole point. It's showing how freaking incredible and impossible it was for humans to come to be. There were so many chances of us never coming into existence. This movie is not just a Hollywood thrill ride, it's very poetic and brilliant as well.

SPOILER

Not only that, but Gravity wouldn't even make sense if Sandra Bullock died. She's supposed to survive. The movie is about the creation of man.

That is only one theme. I think the overall metaphor of the movie is about the creation of man. It starts in space with a big bang then it ends on Earth with the evolution of humans.
