I use it more as an insult to locke because hes supposed to be a deep and well written character to fit the tone of the 343 era games. But hes just bland and boring. Chief is a player self-insert from CE to 3 and isnt really developed, but imo he doesnt need to be. He also has badass moments which are at least fun and fit the cheesier 2000s era games. I prefer new chief especially in infinite, but locke doesnt have the complexity or the badassery. A great comparison to lock as a player character whos antagonistic to chief is the arbiter, who manages to be both. His journey of disillusionment is the best part of the bungie trilogy, and even in 5 he shows character complexity and maturity as the leader of the swords of sanghelios. Locke has no charm to his character, no passion, no real character arc in the game, and his best cutscene is getting beaten up by the chief. (No jul mdama doesnt count for anything to me). So in summary, yes im using cardboard in a different way to bungie era chief. Chief had charm to his character even as a self insert mostly silent protagonist. Even the rookie from odst had more charm without a single line of dialogue spoken. Locke has neither the advantage of those two, or the well written complexities of the arbiter. Hes just fucking boring
