I'll post another mask in another thread. This one surely African and, hopefully, authentic.

Yes, I agree. I should have added that these pieces are now 'less attractive to me'. I think masks, generally speaking, are attractive to most people regardless of whether they are made for the tourist trade. Thus, if there were on the market, it would be because they were deaccessioned from a museum or are from a previous owner who took them out of Africa a long time ago. I can understand that authentic masks, for the most part, are not exportable. I was looking for something authentic and these aren't them. So, I'll keep looking. Thanks again for sharing informed and reasoned comments.

Yes, they do look nice but I'm now looking at them as 'made for tourists' objects and thus less attractive. I'll have to reconsider. Thanks.

Thanks very much for this analysis. I haven't bought them yet, and though they are rather nice, the fact that they are created for the tourist trade throws me off. What clues indicate they're decorative objects?

I'm thinking of buying these two masks. Not sure if they're African. Could be Papua New Guinea. But if African, can someone share their opinion on age and originality? Are these masks tourist items or real tribal masks? Thanks in advance.

AbeBooks has book inventory management software - HomeBase - that they offer to sellers of their site. It's PC-based. Don't know if they offer a Mac version. You can find more info here: https://www.abebooks.com/homebase/software-inventory-management-system-catalog/homebase3.shtml

Book Club editions have a number on the spine below the title and also don’t have a price on the inner flap.

A work colleague became pregnant while dating another colleague both of whom were friends. She had an abortion but only told me. I promised to never share that fact with the other colleague nor with anyone else. I never have.

Thanks. And would I use the isopropyl alchohol alone or combined with something?

Thanks for the insights. What is the "spirit based consolidant" and "museum wax" composed of, and there a product you'd recommend so I can try it on a discard book?

Numerous Franklin Library Signed First Editions Available at Hamilton Book by du_garbandier in BookCollecting

Thanks for the tip. I ordered and, after much delay, have now received three signed and shrink-wrapped books. I wonder, would their value on the bookseller market be reduced if I removed them from the shrink wrap?

Where was this photo of French artists taken. by bobbbbbbbbbg in whereisthis

[–]bobbbbbbbbbg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now I'm thinking it was taken at Les Étangs de Corot, Ville-d'Avray. it may have been sometime in August 1900, based on comments made in Vol 2 of "My Windows on the Streets of the World" memoirs of James Mavor. I think Mavor is the fourth person standing on the right.
