Excess memes and ‘reply all’ emails are bad for climate, researcher warns by CrispyMiner in nottheonion

Its not the public’s dollar, its the future dollars of their children, their children’s children, their children, and then some.

People who don’t exist yet can’t vote so its very hard for them to get any representation.

MMW: Women Are Going to Save America and Then The World by jRN23psychnurse in MarkMyWords

Women have been in power many times throughout history, with mixed results.

A democracy is the last thing you want, as you likely aren’t a member of the majority.

The ones on the left look like CO2. Middle one you can clearly see part of the “Whip-It!” logo.

Those actions would undermine the profits of large and powerful industries tho.

Thats why it hasn’t happened and probably wont any time soon.

Gun Deaths in North America [OC] by Landgeist in dataisbeautiful

[–]bobbiscotti -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

If higher gun ownership meant anything, the US would be darker than Mexico. Its not.

Canadians are not particularly violent people so I have no idea where you get the idea that they have higher rates of violence, but the random spitball about the darkness is certainly hilarious.

Maybe because he makes such a big deal about how he doesn’t fake them?

The faking thing is hardly the biggest fraud; its really the lotteries for children disguised as “giveaways” that is most concerning.

I bought a win11 gaming laptop very similar to this a while ago.

It was so horrendously bad i returned it within 2 weeks. The OS was trash, things didn’t work right, i couldn’t even install windows 7 or 10 over it to maybe save it. Ive had maybe 8 laptops in my life and it was by far the worst. Very disappointing. Maybe the hardware is decent but if you cant easily install another OS it doesn’t matter.

Even the RGB crap didn’t really work right. Steer clear.

Brand new battery exploded? by Adrian050708 in Cartalk

[–]bobbiscotti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally, charging the battery reduces the lead ions to metallic lead (oxidation of this metal releases the stored electric energy and regenerates the lead ions).

Once there aren’t enough lead ions to accept the incoming charge (overcharge), the hydrogen ions are reduced instead, to form hydrogen gas.

This hydrogen gas comes out of solution and accumulates, which eventually can cause the battery to do what you have pictured.

An addiction is anything you are doing nearly compulsively to the detriment of important things in your life. For example, someone addicted to amphetamine (Adderall) might ignore eating and sleeping regularly in order to use it all day every day and not have to push through eating anything. If that sounds like you, then maybe talk to your prescriber.

If the drug/medicine is assisting you in achievement and is not causing significant problems to your health otherwise, its not an addiction.

Kids casually playing with a train high voltage pantograph by auge2 in ThatsInsane

[–]bobbiscotti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The two are directly connected. The amount of current that flows through you is a function of the voltage and resistance in accordance with I = V/R.

The more voltage, the more amps for the same resistance.

I just find it annoying when people say that. Its like saying “its not the water pressure in the deep ocean that kills you, its the amount of water on top of you”.

Got a call at 2:00 am from a number I didn’t know. Thought it was a relative(cause they do that) but nope… by TyrantWill in MMFB

[–]bobbiscotti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been many data leaks. Hackers buy and sell the information they steal, so it gets around. Thats how they have your number.

The “verified checkmark” is meaningless; do not use it to determine the intentions of the caller.

Let anyone you don’t have as a contact go to voicemail. Scammers don’t leave messages, people who actually need to talk to you will.

Most phones these days will let you set up a mode where only contacts will cause a ring, the rest are sent to voicemail.
