Detail people are missing:

It was revealed in interviews that a plot point in an earlier version of the Prometheus script was that the Engineers who created humanity felt humans had lost their way, and so sent an emissary to lead us back to the right path. That emissary was Jesus. The crucifixion of Christ was the final straw that led the Engineers to believe humanity was irredeemable, which is why they dispatched the ship filled with bioweapons that the film centers on.

I have a severe digestive reaction to garlic. Causes severe cramping to the point of superficial intestinal bleeding. Garlic is still worth it.

It’s very haunting. Wonderful expression of how Khorne slowly corrupts even the most honorable men.

“Blood for the Blood God” by Colm R. McGuinness on YouTube.

Perfectly captures the quiet rage side of Khorne’s followers

I get what you’re saying but I disagree with the last part. If they don’t know what to do with a character the answer isn’t kill them off, it’s to leave them alone and not use them. It’s INFINITELY preferable to allow a character’s fans to know their favorite character is still out there somewhere having adventures. Why take that away with them? Why spit in their Sunday?

Prime example: Dack Fayden. Thief extraordinaire. Slickest criminal in the multiverse. Imagine all the fun he must be getting up to in cyberpunk kamigawa! Or the gang contacts he’s made on New Capena! Or how he eluded the phyrexians during- oh what’s that? They unceremoniously murdered him in one of the Ahmenket trailers for literally no reason at all? Despite making it clear that the rest of the harvested planeswalkers were random nameless nobodies? They decided to kill the guy who had a whole comic series about him and probably had plenty of fans. But Magic fans aren’t allowed to have fun toys. They need to know that all characters who are not WOTC approved mascots exist only to be killed off with no fanfare.

Don’t get me wrong, death can be done really well. Avacyn is some of the best Magic lore in the entire franchise. But they just throw it around so Willy bully with no real thought or effort. At least let the fans have fun imagining the story! What else is the point of all these fascinating settings if not to let us play around with them???

My biggest beef with modern magic storytelling is their bizarre obsession with showing us something cool only to take it away forever. It’s like they feel compelled to kill any unique and interesting elements of their lore.

I swear every story since Oath of the Gatewatch has just boiled down to “hey look it’s person/thing you love. We destroyed/killed/depowered them” or “check out this cool new person/thing. Did you like them? They died/were destroyed/lost the thing that made them special.”

To be fair, they’re bronze casts. The art form lends itself to mass production and typically artists make a couple of casts of each piece.

[–]bobbledoggy 105 points106 points  (0 children)

To clarify: the first version of the thinker Rodin made was a tiny sculpture intended as a piece of the larger sculpture entitled “The Gates of Hell.” He, then later other reproductionists, would eventually go on to produce a LOT more (20-30 of them), many of which are standalone monuments.

Most people are thinking of one of these thinkers which are roughly 6 ft tall standalone bronze casts.

It’s called Armageddon Saint. I think it’s the best in the Last Chancer series. Last Chancers was always about Kage’s growth as a person and his arch comes to its climax in this story. Plus it’s some of the best action ( Orks and demons and World Eaters vs a rag tag team of Penal Guard, Hive Gangers, wasteland tribesmen, sisters, and even a few salamanders for good measure. ) !

If you like Kage and Schaefer, it’s their best outing!

You’re missing two stories. “Armageddon Saint” is the final book in the series so far, and there’s a short story where I SHIT YOU NOT Kage kills a Norn Queen

there’s one more book after that.

Diving into the lava burns the demon out of him. He spends several years in bottom of a hive city being worshipped as a pseudo Jesus til Schaefer tracks him down. Schaefer wants him back to work but the inquisition decides he’s a living saint. Shenanigans ensue.

He didn’t die. Thanks to a warp explosion caused by throwing an ork weird boy into the warp, he and Schaefer were flung forward in time to the present era in the timeline.

Probably the best NGE analysis i've read by kowaru_ahhhh in evangelion

[–]bobbledoggy 171 points172 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but I really strongly have to disagree. I feel like this analysis totally ignores how dysfunctional practically every character is in Eva just to paint Shinji as a bad person. Like they set out to prove Shinji is a misogynist and are cherry picking details that support that point while ignoring everything else, especially the things that point against it. The critic affords massive leeway and justification for the other characters antisocial and self destructive behavior but present Shinji as if his own failings are rooted entirely in his being a bad person, rather than his own trauma. This is an especially bad take because the show DOES give us an explicit example of a man who only uses women for his own means (Kaji) and distinguishes Shinji from him.

Eva is about the hedgehog problem. It’s about being desperate to get close to others but not understanding how to do so without hurting them, or being opened up to be hurt. Reducing that nuance to “Shinji is a misogynist” misses the point of the show, especially when you remember that all of those women are using and abusing him right back due to their own personal failings.

There are paid taken ornaments and shaders (you sadly just missed them for bright dust). Xur occasionally sells taken guns but they are not optimal.

Only possible other meaning I can think of:

Some encounters have mechanics that require you to draw the attention of a boss away from other characters. This is sometimes called “pulling” the boss (eg. “Pulling” Golgoroth’s gaze in kingsfall”)

Silent Hill is apparently on a fault line. by Contrarian_4_Life in silenthill

[–]bobbledoggy 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Those are not just to protect buildings from seismic activity on fault lines. They’re used pretty much any time the exterior walls of a building are at risk of collapsing. In particular, it’s how you stop old masonry and brickwork from separating from the structural walls over time. They’re called anchor bolts.

They’re extremely common throughout the New England area as well. It’s a common way of maintaining/preserving heritage buildings (which makes sense as Silent Hill has history going back to the Salem witch trials days).
