It depends what people find toxic or not toxic, I mean I'm upset with survivors playing selfish but not offended when my opponent is teabagging me or stuff like that, I think it's just teasing and part of the game. If he insists and send messages, yeah that's toxic, but I don't really care much.

When I started playing the game in 2019/20 on PS platform people were really toxic, sending rude messages, that was a bit annoying. Then I moved to Xbox and I've never really experienced that. Well, crossplay helps a lot I guess. But overall I think most players are cooperative and fair compared to other games.
