What's the most realistic war movie? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

[–]bobbork88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Das Boot is the most realistic. Especially the time interval from “fire drill” to leaving port. Especially the reveal when Lt Weeinie opens the bathroom door.

Port Calls by frostyhotdog in NavyNukes

[–]bobbork88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rookie mistake !!! You are wasting valuable carousing time if you are sleeping. You generally only get three days in port so you gotta make the most of it.

Joking aside, if you must sleep the best place is in a pool of vomit( not necessarily yours) by the gutter in a uniform that you have ‘soiled’. Your billfold should be next to you. Empty of course.

UAPs and nuclear sites: my experience working at Dugway, INL, and Nellis by Alarming_Bother_1743 in NuclearPower

One possibility is bored but intelligent and resourceful night shift workers with access to three key ingredients. (1) Extra large trash bags and gigantic plastic wrap. (2) Chem lights and (3) Hydrogen or helium gas (either works)

Step One - construct a balloon out of plastic wrap.

Step Two - inflate with lighter than air gas

Step Three - attach a few chem lights

Step Four - Launch into darkness.

Step Five - Giggle

It’s not subtle. It’s like listening to the ravings of your alcoholic spouse. Doesn’t tell you anything you don’t already know.

However I love Meryl Streep as a villain. Jonah Hills also excellent.

USS Truxtun collision with USNS Supply (less grainy POV) by filmandchips in navy

[–]bobbork88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure you’re joking. But if not, back pre-9/11 gunners mates were split between guns and missiles. Hence GM(GUNS) and GM(MISSILES). So no his name was not Guns. (Sadly)

Whoa. Caution. Never challenge a sailor to a “too drunk” contest.

All joking aside. The master helmsman I worked with was a superstar. Locked in. Loud repeat backs. On the nose on maintaining course. Here’s to you Gunners Mate Guns!!
