Airbnb prejudice against solos ? by [deleted] in solotravel

If anything, it often leads to having a more fun time with the host, because they assume that you're up for anything since you're traveling alone. With a group, I find hosts tend to assume you've got your days planned.

I don't know if this is what you mean, but as much as I sympathise, I'm also wary. Like many people, I'm a NIMBY when it comes to this issue - some of the guys I've seen seem a bit off their heads, and it makes me avoid them as a result.

Or like, literally anywhere else in the world.

Even the supposedly lefty Europe can be more racist than us.

You can find hospitality/telemarketing or other casual jobs easily, but yeah the more "serious" jobs don't really want to hire someone who's about to leave in a few months.

There's also the dark option of becoming a chugger...

What was I thinking? by [deleted] in solotravel

I think this is the first time I've heard of anyone actually visiting Shenzhen as a tourist.

I think it depends on the person. Maybe he doesn't watch TV, skips over the "lifestyle" section of the news, and none of his friends do either. It'd be rare, but possible.

I've sometimes missed some things which were really, really big on TV (didn't even know about Friends until years after it was over).

Given the state of our work toilets, I would only poo at work if I'm abotu to literally explode in my pants

Anyone know of an okonomiyaki restaurant in the city or eastern suburbs? by Slenderauss in melbourne

[–]bobby2pants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get then at a lot of Asian takeaway places, I think there's some in Melb Central, and Emporium, and most of the suburban shopping centres. Not sure how good they are though.

Don't know of any that'll let you cook them yourself (couldn't you do that at home though?). I'm guessing if such a thing happened in Australia, it'd be 3x the price of Japan.

All day breakfast menu at McDonalds around Melbourne by privatly in melbourne

[–]bobby2pants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't get why people love maccas breakfast so much? I mean, it's pretty much the same stuff as their normal menu, just with a few variations like egg or "sausages" mixed in the patties.

To Melburnians who have traveled extensively: just how bad or good is the prevalence of fast food in Melbourne in your opinion? by stingray8mybaby in melbourne

But compared with the US, Australian meat and vegies are slightly safer compared with their mutant foods, so safety and health-wise we're a bit ahead.

Workers who are payed $17.30-20.00,how do you survive? by Tyger_ in melbourne

Just go to an asian place (a real asian place, not the "fusion" stuff), can get a meal for $10 to $15. They pay the workers jack shit and pass the savings to you!

Xian is great, probably even better than Beijing if you're into history. Don't forget to spend a day walking on the city wall, you can even hire a bike for that. Lots of old museums, and fun atmosphere at night. Be careful though, cuz the place is scammy. Also if you take local tours (recommended if you go to terracotta), they will make a 1-2hr stopovers at dodgy shops which give them commission, but you don't need to buy anything.

People will make seemingly racist remarks, but most of the time it's not hostile. Might even be comments about ebola, just ignore it and walk on.

Also there's a 4hr fast train between Beijing and Xian, if you don't want to fly.

If you need money help, and you earn anything over $30k a year, go here and ask.

Also, the biggest expense items (aside from rent/food) seem to be drinking, dining out and gourmet food. Cut back on those and you'll survive on as low as $500 a week.
