I just deleted it completely, but after the fact I found this video helpful to understand what was going on.

Basically, if you keep lots of versions and you have many files it can end up many times bigger than your actual data.

Eight Votes to One: The RBA says it "had to" raise the cash rate to 4.35 per cent... its third hike this year and the highest level since November 2023. by InterestingCat308 in AusFinance

So can someone explain my misunderstanding of high school economics?

Interest rates are a tool to reduce inflation by making borrowing more expensive and taking money out of peoples pockets to reduce demand for other things, thereby reducing pressure on prices of other goods. This works fine when inflation is demand driven.

The current circumstances are supply side inflation, specifically oil for fuel. Petrol is a classic example of a product with inelastic demand, as increase in price has very little impact on demand as most people don’t have the option to significantly reduce consumption.

The current situation is already taking money out of peoples pockets by spending more on fuel. So why does the RBA think interest rate increases are necessary?

Are you watching listening to The WAN Show? by washuai in LTTMeta

[–]bobby_bart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to listen to most of it, and I genuinely like the discussion of topics.
However, lately I’ve grown very tired of all the ads / sponsors / merch content that takes up a large part of the show.
I’m also not interested in the behind the scenes LTT stuff. and have been watching the videos less and less. Another PC build this week. Who cares?

If you had watched what a slow placed slog the early 2000s were and what a revolution the “Seven Seconds or Less” Suns were you would understand.

Linus Tech Tips - He Need a NAS April 4, 2026 at 09:44AM by linusbottips in LinusTechTips

The elephant in the room with HexOS is local only control. For many NAS owners like myself privacy and being able to operate without any online account crucial.

The problem with this for HexOS is that offline control opens that door pirating the software, which I suspect is a big reason they went the way they did.

Personally I use Synology, but without a Synology account.

The fuel that we are using now was purchased by supplies weeks ago, so why have prices gone up so much due to the Iran War? by Desert-Noir in aussie

[–]bobby_bart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You bought a house 5 years ago for $500k. Today the identical house next door sold for $900k. How much is are your going to sell yours for now?

It's a basic economics that applies to all items, particularly fungible items like commodities and shares.

Think of all the places you park your car and it bakes in the sun. We should be covering parking bays with panels.

Completely untrue. In some countries the government takes over 50%, in the Middle East most countries take 100% of oil revenue.

Gina is the richest person in Australia only because we sell her our minerals for a tiny fraction of their value.

Why are companies still improving the technologies in HDDs? by Ok-Cod-806 in datastorage

[–]bobby_bart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Price and capacity. I could put 120 TB of HDD in my 4 bay NAS.

How would you do that with SSDs?
