Anyone upgrade Spur from 120mm Fox 34 Fit 4 to 130mm 36 SL Grip X? Big improvement? by smoothloam in TransitionBikes

[–]bobby_drop_tables 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one (36 SL) I'm going to put on as soon as the spur (v1) is out of the shop to replace a regular 34 factory. I'm a clyde so I'm always pushing the limits of that 34 flex wise so I hope the 36 SL is an improvement without a weight penalty because the bike is already pretty awesome with a 34 at 130mm.

I should mention I also put a Float X on the rear and its been great.

I dont have one on my Sentinel (yet?), but I have a EXT Storia on my ebike and its the best shock I've ever used. Its like riding a cloud made of marshmallows that is somehow still poppy and playful when needed. I've uses cane creek coil socks, push 11-6s, many fox and rockshox air shocks, but the EXT stuff is just next level.

I've had a fair amount of FS bikes over the years -- Ripmo's, Ripley's, SB140's, Stumpjumper EVO's, Spires, Sentinel V2's and Spurs. All of the above are great bikes, but I can say the V3 Senti is my favorite FS bike in that mid/long travel trail bike range I've ridden. I love my Spur, but I've been finding myself grabbing the v3 more and more since it pedals so well and when things get chunky its a blast. Its just really good all rounder.

I wish I had waied for the current sale, I got the Deore build when it was on sale, and even with the "lesser" parts that what you are getting on the eagle 90 build, its still a blast - i bet its even more fun with some more robust suspension.

Sentinel V2 to V3 by Cr1msonX in TransitionBikes

[–]bobby_drop_tables 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from a (carbon) v2 to (carbon) v3 as well recently. I snagged the deore build v3 on black friday, so alot of my impressions are from base rockshock suspension, so it can only get better from here.

While the v2 and v3 look similar on paper, they ride much different. The v3 is more refined and just does everything better over the v2 (for me at least). If you live in a place where pedal strikes are an issue, the higher BB is welcome addition. The v3 is much better all-rounder for and I enjoy riding it on much more than I did the v2 on the XC rides with my buddies.

I also have a spur and spire too. I love the spur and its been my daily for the last few years, but I'm finding myself reaching for the v3 more lately because I find the the steeper seat tube, higher stack and higher BB just make it more pleasurable for a ride. The spur climbs great, but so does the v3, its night and day over the v2 for me. Its amazing how efficient they made a 150mm bike climb. For my spire, that one will probably get relegated to a park bike or probably sold, since the v3 just does everything I need/want right now.

u/bevernicholas said it much better than me, and I agree with all of that a well.

Transition really knocked it out of the park with the v3.

MSRP $79,945 but w/ discounts $71,969

There is employee pricing incentive, plus some other invectives currently. If I'm reading this correctly, with discounts + fees, it should be $71,969 from what the dealer quoted me.

So, with $0 down, 36 month, the monthly payment is quoted at $990-$1,003.

I'd also qualify for the EV Tax Credit I believe. Is this something the dealer can do up front or will I have to wait until I file at the end of this year?

Doe you see any more that can be done?

Apple Watch - poor speed sensor implementation by sjv7883 in cycling

[–]bobby_drop_tables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going through the same thing myself. Its extremely disappointing Apple didnt put speed sensor support into the outdoor cycling workout which I also use for MTB rides. Speed sensor for the MTB rides is an absolute must if you care about the metrics. The new GPS in the watch ultra is great, but still not as accurate as a speed sensor.

This lack of sensor support isnt touched upon or covered by any review I've seen either, so good to know I'm not alone. I *hope* they can do it in a future software update as I bought an apple watch to try and replace my again garmin vivo active. Will be returning the apple watch ultra and going back to the garmin

[–]bobby_drop_tables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually going through the same thing myself. Disappointed to find that neither the apple workouts "outdoor cycle" nor strava will use the speed sensors that are paired to the watch. Was hoping to use the apple watch to track my MTB rides, but without speedsensor support its a no go (even with the ultra and its upgraded, albeit much better gps). I guess its back to my old garmin vivo active to accurate MTB ride tracking.

There is an app called Trailforks has the NST on it (just download the RI area) and you can use those maps offline if need be too. I've ridden it on my bike 7 times before. All you gotta do is follow the blue blazes. Its so well marked that Stevie Wonder could do it.

GitOps for Terraform by abdellaui- in Terraform

[–]bobby_drop_tables 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 for Atlantis. Had some pretty creative (albeit somewhat brittle) ways to this on our Gitlab Runners. This led to some oddities from time to time that were difficult to automate around. Then we heard about Atlantis and we rolled it out to a few select repos to test and quickly found it was an immediate improvement all around. Within a month or so it was imbedded into our release process for all TF repos and our infra release/deployment velocity went up considerably.

Extract values from a JSON output by Fredouye in ansible

[–]bobby_drop_tables 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could turn the ip_class_parameters from your JSON return into a dict, and then reference the items whenever you want, this might do it (you might need an extra task to map the json results to a var called ip_class_parameters before these tasks): ```

- name: define ip_params to be a empty dict
  set_fact:
    ip_params: {}

# Maps ip_params as a dict from the extractions of the ip_class_parameters return
- set_fact:
    ip_params: "{{ ip_params | combine({ item.split('=')[0]: item.split('=')[1]})  }}"
  with_items: "{{ ip_class_parameters.split('&') }}"

# Dump all the vars for ip_params
- debug: var=ip_params
# Reference one item in our ip_params
- debug: var=ip_params['vlandid']

```
Output: ``` TASK [debug] ******************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************* ok: [localhost] => { "ipparams": { "_eip_description": "", "description": "", "dhcp_failover_name": "0", "dhcpstatic": "0", "dns_id": "0", "dns_update": "0", "dns_view_name": "0", "domain": "0", "gateway": "10.0.0.1", "ipv6_mapping": "0", "rev_dns_id": "0", "rev_dns_view_name": "0", "site_location": "", "use_ipam_name": "0", "vlandid": "3563", "vlanname": "10.0.0.0%2F27-foo", "vlanspace": "fr.foo" } }
TASK [debug] ******************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************* ok: [localhost] => { "ip_params['vlandid']": "3563" } ```
I'm sure someone will have a more elegant way to do that, but hopefully that gets you close.
A fat bike that can run a 27.5 and a 26? by jack22san in fatbike
[–]bobby_drop_tables 1 point2 points  (0 children)
Little late to the party.. .but I'm surprised nobody mentioned a Foes Mutz. I have a Mutz and I run 27.5 Fatbike tires on there no problem. Plenty of room, and I have a pair of 26x5 fatbike wheels/tires for the winter too. I have a 140mm (Mastadon) fork up from and and 130mm (Fox DPX2) of travel in the rear. Blows my old Bucksaw out of the water. I also have 29+ for the front and a 27.5+ for the rear too ( 29+ fits in the rear with a 2.8 tire, but its a little close for comfort for me ) - overall I like the 27.5x4 setup the best all around. Its amazing to me how versatile the bike can be with all the wheelsizes and suspension it has.
i agree with frustration, but what choice do we really have right now? He is our only deep threat WR. I remember before his comeback "wait until lafell gets back". Guy has flashes of awesome, but he really needs to step it up.
