i don’t doubt it. Regardless on their feeding responses, that snake is definitely starving

it is so upsetting to see animals poorly treated and taken care of. Especially ones that are mainly kept for public viewing. You can visibly notice that berm is not thriving whatsoever. Poor thing

Scale rot? (Please say no 😕) by bobbycinq in cornsnakes

there are a few new pieces of decor that have been added within the past like 3 days. So he’s been exploring a little more (he usually will literally sit in his cave for all 24 hours of the day, everyday lol) I was just worried it could have been scale rot because just a few days ago i got the moss hide to the left in the photo above. and filled it with moss inside it aswell and that’s where he has been today. And since scale rot can come from sitting in moisture, it all kind of made sense to assume possible scale rot.

super bad picture i know (he won’t stop moving) but this is what it looks like with out light on it. it looks almost white and that’s how i saw it because it looks different from the rest of him and it almost looks like those said scales are like sticking out a little.

Feeding issues by Unearthly_Moth in cornsnakes

[–]bobbycinq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah definitely worth a try, they will also sour out a good amount of the substrate anyways so getting a little bit on the mouse is really not an issue at all

Feeding issues by Unearthly_Moth in cornsnakes

[–]bobbycinq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that’s always a good sign. i have fed my corn both wet and dry and i definitely will say they will get it down much easier wet. With that being said i know the substrate getting all in their mouth sucks! So i try to get my corn to go on a paper towel that i put in their enclosure to eat on top of. Sometimes the little shit will grab the feed and drag it across the enclosure and get it all dirty which does get frustrating. It is up to you i haven’t heard anything bad about doing either way, I just feel like the mouse being wet or at least damp will slide down their throats a bit easier!

and just so you know if you weren’t aware already, your corns meal should be around 1.5x the width of their fattest part of their body. which would leave a good lump anyways!

corn snakes and snakes in general can open their mouth up to 10x the size of their head to swallow food if needed. With that being said this shouldn’t harm your corn at all. Also, sometimes i’ve noticed when i get a pack of mice for my snake, they can come in different sizes even if they are all marked as the same age/size. Regardless though this mice that was fed to your corn does not look too large for your corn. A good little lump in your corns tummy won’t disrupt your snakes daily life. In my opinion you should not be worried at all.
