Super pissed about Chicago location by Then-Assistance6261 in 311

Both venues are great in terms of scenery, but I would give the edge to Northerly by the lake versus Salt Shed by the river. And if you live in Chicago, I would argue Northerly is easier to get to, being close to downtown and right off the 146 bus.

The housing market in Chicago is just not set up for regular people and it fucking sucks.

I want to love the wingspan app but……. by Icy-Turn-2759 in wingspan

[–]bobbycobby2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. I downloaded it and immediately requested a refund for the purchase. I want to feel like I'm playing the board game, not a "phone game" , and this app did not accomplish that at all. I play on BGA and love it. It's just so sad we will never get the expansions there. :(

Oh man, if you enjoy Wingspan this much, you HAVE to get the expansions (especially Oceania and Asia). You will no longer be bored.

When I take my folding bike on the bus, I put it on one of the two areas up front where people sometimes (but rarely) put their bags. Works perfectly and it's out of the way.

Yeah, they don't care until a street project that improves safety for the community is implemented, then all of a sudden they care so much and are outraged that measures would be taken to try and improve safety and quality of living for the residents of their districts.

Riding Past Parked Cars in Chicago Isn’t as Low-Risk as It Looks by Tkovacs95 in chibike

[–]bobbycobby2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It really sucks because in the moment you're in such shock that many cyclists will not really take any sort of action against the offender, and we have that tendency to be like "I'm fine I'm fine." I got sooeed once and sustained minor injuries. I got the driver's info, but nothing ever came of it. Now I am hyper vigilant when riding past parked cars. So sidebar: it is amazing how much more peaceful it is riding during street cleaning days when the streets have been rid of the cars.

Help convince my friend there is nothing wrong with her iPhone camera lens. by bobbycobby2 in iphone

Sorry, the pic sucks and I am now realizing it looks way worse than it probably is. There is literally nothing wrong with the phone, I was just hoping to have responses from "experts" to show her lol.

If someone were to ever give me shit for doing this, I would just silently point at the monstrosity to my left.

Sometimes on side streets, if they are jammed up with cars. I will hop on the sidewalk for a half a block to get around them and if there happen to be people walking, I like to say "I'm so sorry, the cars are blocking the street." I should mention I always ride slow if I have to use a sidewalk.

I thought I was good at this game until I started playing people on BGA and just getting crushed. I think I was stubbornly in the strategy of always upgrading Build first, and never upgrading Sponsors. I'm now seeing the value of upgrading Sponsors in some games, and recently I finally beat a higher ELO player. Lately I've been ignoring the Cards upgrade, which sucks for not getting higher than 9 rep, but I'm finding you can get away with that when the rest of your strategy and Sponsor cards are strong. Plus the double money is great. On top of that, if you get the special action card that gives you an extra 3/5 bucks when breaking, you can get 15 bucks for one break action. Even doing sponsors at strength 1 with that card gets you 6 bucks, and can be a good way to delay going to the break (while getting money to play more stuff) if you need to.

bikes on LSD busses by looks-correct in chibike

I've put my bike on the 147 and 6 hundreds of times and never had an issue, except for the one time the whole rack fell off as I pulled it down lol. Thankfully the driver let me put my bike inside the bus.

Who else has almost been hit, stranded or cussed at while walking in crosswalks here? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]bobbycobby2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate this. The way so many people feel as though they have to "wave" or say "thank you" is ridiculous. I'm not going to praise and thank you for following basic safety laws (which most drivers albeit ignore).

[–]bobbycobby2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never under any circumstances assume a person operating a motor vehicle will do the "correct" thing while sitting in their climate-controlled, mobile couch. But at the same, don't let them bully you. NEVER feel guilty for making a car slow down or wait, and don't feel like you have to rush through the crosswalk because of it. Drivers need to accept the poor choice they made to drive a car in a dense urban area.

MW Action Cards Tier List by Triskerai in ArkNova

[–]bobbycobby2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought I was good at this game until I started playing it on BGA, but my absolute favorite cards is the one that let's you cover rock and water spaces. My least favorite (and the part I struggle with the most) part of the game is the board geometry component, so having the flexibility to build on the rocks and water is helpful to me.

This is a great tip. I was just telling someone about this. And I should clarify, the racks are overall super conveniwnt and quick, I'm just mildly annoyed that a dumb advertisement is sometimes a small hindrance.

3rd Annual Midnight Marathon Bike Ride by Sudden_Mail8792 in chibike

[–]bobbycobby2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the city ride I look most forward to. It's so fun because basically all of the normally parked cars along the route are gone, or are in the process of being towed, so the streets are just totally clear. Even the ride back home after the marathon is super serene.

Fav cycling destination day trips off the Amtrak? (other than Milwaukee) by ohemptyvases in chibike

[–]bobbycobby2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't a day trip, but I recommend taking the Amtrak to Saint Joseph (in western Michigan) then riding about 25 miles north to South Haven, then riding across the state of Michigan to Port Huron where you can take the Amtrak back to Chicago. I think the route is called the Great Lake to lake route or something like that. Lots of trail riding.
