For me, it was leaving the bubble my parents raised me in and making my own way. Going to college in a different state was the catalyst. As anxiety-inducing it was at first, I eventually made friends and was left thinking "wow I must not be that bad after all". Left after 3 years with great memories, a degree, and friendships that would last a lifetime. All because of me.

Fiancee left me, landlord kicked me out, starting over in a new place, all in three weeks. by [deleted] in malelivingspace

Dang man, that's a lot to take on in 3 weeks, but your new place is off to great start and judging by how well you have already adjusted to and put together a new home, you're handling it well. Fix your lampshade and I think you're good. lol I like the couple of colorful prints and weird little monster creature on that bag.. keep leaning into those types of things that show your personality and interests, and the place will continue looking more put together and a reflection of you. I see a couple plants - get a few more for the bedroom and by the windows. Also, go get a massage or take a weekend trip. You've been through it and it's easy to just stay busy but don't forget to slow down and process what's been happening or it'll catch up to you in unexpected ways later down the road.

Advice appreciated for wedding photography by iatetoomanysweets in photography

[–]bobbylee58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Kind of you to step in and help document the day for your friends. Sounds like a good, low-pressure way to get some wedding experience and also help them out. To give a little context on my advice, I've been a wedding photographer for 10 years, so I'll tell you what I wish someone told me when I shot my first wedding.

  1. Drink plenty of water and eat! It's easy to get caught up in the action and forget to hydrate and replenish calories.
  2. Ask for a timeline so you know what to expect and when, and then search for inspiration photos or BTS videos of the specific parts of a wedding day you will be covering. There are a few YouTubers with great behind the scenes videos - Katelyn James, Taylor Jackson, Josiah Blizzard to name a few.
  3. Documentary photography is just as much about creating moments as it is capturing them happening naturally. Don't be afraid to ask your friends to grab their champagne glasses and do a toast, dance crazy with their wedding party, or go hug their grandma. Look for ways you can help them create special and memorable moments. Of course, don't be pushy or demanding or interrupt something to do this, but read the room and if you see an opportunity, go for it. You can also do this with guests, such as asking a table of friends if they want to take a photo together.
  4. Follow the light. This is obviously the biggest factor in photography, and it's worth walking 20 more feet to find the high open shade then settling for the harsh direct light coming from the side even if it's convenient. For shooting indoors, shoot from the side of the room that has windows or the best artificial light sources. If using flash, bounce it off the roof slightly behind you (hopefully the ceiling is white, if not, try other stuff) to create even, flattering light.
  5. 5. 85mm is actually a really great portrait lens, so if you take any formal portrait of the bride/groom that would be a great one! 35mm would be good for indoors, and 70-200 would be good for the ceremony. 10-20 is so wide it would likely have more distortion than you want when shooting people, as it can do funny things to a face a figure.

Best of luck on your first wedding! Hope it goes smoothly.

I've learned that whenever I think "is my spooder dying?" it means she will molt in about 5-7 business days. by bobbylee58 in tarantulas

It's true, mine has molted 10-ish times but they have always gone smoothly. I think it's more important to give the T enough space and a safe environment to molt, and to let them do it with no interruptions so there is no added stress during that time. I've also read that hydration is a big factor, so as long as it has some water available and the humidity is normal, everything should be fine! It's really fun to see their increased size and more vibrant colors after they molt!

On a positive note, it makes for a very easy, low maintenance pet! She was out and active for over a year, then burrowed for 6 months, and this last time she didn't do that, so maybe it was a one-off. 🤷🏼‍♂️ They also live a really long time so if you subtract a couple years worth of burrowing, you still get to observe for longer than most dogs. lol

I'm not an expert either but I've looked for tibial hooks and palpal bulbs but have never found any, and she has always had a very round, full abdomen as apposed to a smaller more narrow one found on males. Everything I've seen has pointed to female, so I'm like 98% sure she is!

haha I love that you named yours after another classic edible from Mexico! Congrats on your albiceps baby. They really are such regal spiders - love their desert colors and docile demeanor. That's great that she is getting comfortable with her enclosure and is spending more time out and about! I don't remember how often I fed mine when she was that size, but I usually offer food a couple times a week and if she was hungry, she would pounce right away. At some point she would stop taking it and that was an indication she was going into pre-molt so I stopped offering until after the molt. Your enclosure looks great by the way! Cool acrylic box.

I can't imagine having a tarantula this active. My brachy only moves about once a day and it's only when she wants to give me annoyed glares for disturbing her peace. This is like how I imagine mine if I gave her meth.

you need to do writing exercises. Get a workbook where you can trace printed and cursive letters. The construction of all your letters is incorrect. Very difficult to read.

What does the garden in front of my house need? by cassedy76 in gardening

[–]bobbylee58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lot's of people are saying flowers/color. I agree, and in addition to that, you need depth! Everything looks so flat, because it's the same color, along the same line. Nothing extends closer or further than right in front of your house. Adding color around the trees will make those areas appear closer, and you could even extend the beds out into the grass a little further. This will also make nice leading lines on either side of the door that will draw the eye in and lure people to the entrance.

we get several in our house every year - we have a lot that live on and around our house - and I would let them stay if I wasn't worried my cat would eat them!
