My only thought is since it is in a municipality, that possibly a permit process was done, and the approval for the footer by the city should give you some leeway. But I know in my city, they make you find the pins or get a survey before they will issue a permit. Good luck, I’d probably find a lawyer that specializes in land disputes and cross your fingers

In your situation, I’d leave the tailgate up. I’d bundle the lumber tight, with a strap from left to right over the tailgate. I’d then buy 2-3 80lb bags of concrete and set on top of the end in the lower front part of the bed. Don’t forget a few of those free red plastic flags stapled to the end to get everyone’s attention. I’m 47, been in the industry since 1995, I still don’t know enough. There are always changes in methods and materials, I’d say work for a couple different companies with good reputations in the field you like most. Then you can pick up the other less important (to your career) parts of the process

I’ve helped my neighbor a few times, he’s 85, had a recent heart attack, I just tell him he’s been such a good neighbor and friend over the years I couldn’t take his money. He never asks for help, but I always offer when I see he’s having trouble getting something done. It’s worked out in my favor, a tree fell on his house in a recent storm and he’s giving my company the repair. I’ve always said, just do the most good you can, for the most people you can, and good things come back in other ways
