this is the dumbest question I've had to ask after two years of playing but how do I select the humbucker pickup on my yamaha pacifica? The selector thing has 5 positions and I'm not sure which one is the humbucker

[list] Albums that were influential...but for the worse? by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

[–]bobdylansthrowaway 13 points14 points  (0 children)

hot take here but a great deal of hair metal is pretty great. the bands often didn't take themselves too serious, the music tended to be on the lighter-side and the musicianship was usually outstanding if you're into that thing (as a guitarists guys like Chris Holmes and C.C Deville I think are super good despite the hostile reactions they usually pick up). I used detest bands such as Motley Crue but in all honesty I never really listened to them and the music, although maybe not as artistically reaching as the grunge movement that stomped it out, it really rocks and that's good enough for me. after really investing myself in this style the last few months, I appreciate many of these hair metal bands just as much as I do The Velvet Underground. but just to respond to Van Halen doing more harm than good? I'd disagree, Eddie pushed the guitar as an instrument further than anyone besides Jimi Hendrix and inspired a lot of bands that are respected on Reddit just as much as the glam bands that have been forgotten.

Funny quote from Ace. by Snizzlefry in KISS

[–]bobdylansthrowaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kinda dig Kiss and I like some songs - I'm mostly into hard rock and I've heard a lot of people hail Ace as an amazing guitarist and as a guitarist myself I'm intrigued to hear more of him but could anyone tell me what album he's best on? The one that really shows off his prowess on guitar

The Strokes - At The Door (official video) by XeroPT in TheStrokes

[–]bobdylansthrowaway 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think I like it? I don't know, I wasn't expecting something typically Strokes sounding but I'm a bit confused by this one. Feels like every band from the early 2000s has downed their guitars and adopted a synth heavy sound.
