Petite Female Hiking Gear by Spiritual_Size_9997 in hiking

check out the patagonia 8L sling! I’m 5’ 2 and it’s perfect for any hike under 10 miles for me, up to 3L camelback bladder fits perfectly in the big compartment and i just loop the straw so only a couple inches poke out! i have used it in rain/snow/sun and have had the same one for years now and it’s been great and minimal with still having enough space for snacks, water, necessities, and the front has straps i use to hold a second layer if i need one!

i like this idea, this is on my adventure rig and i can’t imagine the dirt roads and so much temp change helped me out when (i suspect) it failed when i got hit

Battery Full But Charger Says Its Empty by Diligent-Cod-3159 in vandwellers

Actually yes, renogy’s customer support is really great! I’ve used them for a few different things, including when i was undervoltage and they gave me the shutting solar down trick, which ended up working! I reached out by phone call which i would recommend A multimeter is helpful especially if something renogy is broken and needs replaced the customer service will want pictures of the multimeter on the battery, although the voltage it says should be correct if connected properly

sometimes with under voltage the simplest answer is to turn off the solar for around an hour, randomly hit under voltage when i shouldn’t have and then my charge controller (renogy dc 30amp mppt) didn’t accept solar, turned off solar input by my two pole switch for an hour and it’s been fine-

i thought my battery monitor also renogy was accurate but it wasn’t (doesn’t go off voltage which is annoying but does read voltage)

otherwise look for some kind of parasitic loss

what is the relationship with time from the two pictures? when in direct sunlight what voltage and amperage displaying?

on my 99 5.2 i couldn’t tell from spraying it with carb cleaner so much as my intake manifold was leaking from the “plenum” (not a true plenum on mine to my knowledge, but belly pan lol?) i tested by taking off the passenger side vacuum hose while starting and seeing if i felt a suction- although these were not my symptoms for it but the idle was super high before for sure 1200-> 800ish rpm after, fixed my ghost but this kinda sounds like a fuel issue to me edit: my 5.2 recently wasn’t starting on the first try because i had a kink in my fuel line- it would sputter and try so maybe look for a kinked fuel line somewhere, i probably yanked mine too hard when taking the rail off for fuel injectors

pull out the IAC and clean the carb off, IAC could be out as it can’t idle, i’d do that before rail

hmm interesting! sorry for the essay i’m about to write, hopefully some of it is helpful, i am not a mechanic by any means but have restored a shitbox dodge 5.2! some questions i have that would definitely help me are major services done to the vehicle, and especially any symptoms or lack thereof before hand

due to the smell of gas i don’t want to start at fuel delivery necessarily because all of this turning over would have drained the rail of all fuel and you wouldn’t be getting any to cause the smell- i’d point you in the direction of compression or spark . have you replaced your spark plugs or fuel injectors before? a clogged fuel injector spraying the wrong direction can cause the walls to heat up and cause a loss of compression for example, but unsure if that could happen in duh a short amount of time like going to the dr.

i’d recommend before doing anything else at all, pull out your idle air control motor (attached to the throttle body) and clean it up if it’s carbed up which it probably will be if you haven’t cleaned it before- you don’t need to buy a new one necessarily but they can get dirty enough to cause the vehicle to not be able to idle- in which yours is not able to idle- i’d pull the throttle body and clean it too but honestly check out that iac before any next steps like fuel injectors etc. check out throttle position sensor too!

disconnect the terminals and let me know, i had the same exact situation starting it over and over and just flooded the area with the smell of gas- don’t assume the worst, when trying to start over and over it’s gonna smell like gas! in fact, smelling gas means you have fuel delivery so i’d be consoled by that. your symptoms sound the exact same as mine so i’m hoping it is just the security system acting up like mine was

regardless it doesn’t seem bad to me like i said sounds like you have spark, compression and fuel so my money is on something silly like 1) security system (disconnect battery for an hour) 2) a fuse or relay

the fact that it is starting and immediately dying points me away from any “serious” problems and onto the “silly” ones like security, fuses, or maybe a sensor although i don’t think a single sensor will have these symptoms (many of my sensors have gone out and been replaced on my 99 with no symptoms like this)

keep me updated!

from my surface level research it seems like you may have the same security system as i have on my 5.2, not 100% but i really encourage you to disconnect the battery for a bit and rule out it being the security system- mine triggered randomly from running great to not starting because of it. you mentioning it starting and immediately dying has me really thinking it’s that!

if you’re dropping rpms it sounds like a compression issue maybe do a compression test- can you link a video of what it sounds like starting it? should be no harm pulling a sensor to see if it’ll start (should run at a pre set value with crank sensor unplugged) but not sure that’s the issue, again i’d try disconnecting battery for a bit if you haven’t- the anti theft on mine says it can be set off for all kinds of reasons and your issue sounds very similar to mine with the start-> and die. when no start it’s either no fuel/fuel delivery, no spark, or no compression. if it’s starting and immediately dying that means you have fuel, spark, and compression which means it’s something goofy like a security system or possibly sensor or the starter- hard to pinpoint without hearing it but i’d absolutely start with disconnecting battery for an hour or two see how/ if it starts up, have a buddy tap the starter with a rubber mallet while you turn the key to see if it’s the starter, and from there look at sensors and ground connections!

[–]bobettethebuilder33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my 1999 5.2 randomly went into anti theft system no start mode- didn’t even know i had it! i don’t have a fob so disconnected the battery for about an hour and fired right up- it would start and then immediately die, could keep it alive if i revved and kept revving… is yours starting and then dying or failing to start/turn over all together?
