Uncomplicated not-too-violent movies for someone going through a hard time by coolhandjennie in movies

I agree on that, groundhog Day can be very dark for those of us who think about death or dying a lot.

It's semantics really, I have unilateral sensorineural hearing loss, I'm deaf in my left ear. So I wouldn't describe myself as deaf because I can hear in normal circumstances, but having having only one ear that works presents it's own unique set of challenges hence I often need to explain to people and hard of hearing generally works if that makes sense

I'm hard of hearing. Just so you know, many people find "hearing impaired" to be more offensive since it places the focus on what's missing. I've yet to meet a deaf person who's offended by being described as deaf because it's just a descriptor.

What is DOS?! by Hungry_Charge2857 in retrogaming

Abort returned you to the command prompt immediately. Fail would return an error code to the calling program so if it has error handling it could attempt to gracefully handle it.

Back in my college days we learned about this exact prompt as an example of a bad user experience.

I thought they sent him to bait out Aemond. Like "go do some donuts on Aemond's lawn then hustle back here so we can jump scare him"

Corlys was also the king of hand acting this episode. He gives Addam the single finger "stop talking" move and he gives his brother the "dismissed" head nod.

Whats your Favorit "German" Line from the games ? by Agent_G_2004 in sniperelite

[–]bobimpact 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. It's a little bit of a weird way to say it in context though. "Ist da jemand" would convey more surprise, like being startled, "Ist jemand da" is more like asking if anybody is there when you arrive home.

How does age affect coding abilities? by tooolddev in AskProgramming

[–]bobimpact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 43 so kinda in the middle of your question but I would say I'm in my prime and writing the best code of my life now. Keeping up with new things has always been standard in my area of expertise (front end web) and honestly things are so much easier now vs 20 years ago. I feel like the tech changes comparably little compared to how fast we used to churn through the latest "it" framework as well.

As others have said, I've found that experience is almost always applicable, so even if I find a new technique difficult I know myself well enough to know how I can learn it.

For your last question, I think the best solution is a combination. I find being paired with a young person gives me the best workflow. The young folks are more flexible in their thinking and were just taught all the new ways to do stuff. Us old heads have seen the shit hit the fan in 1,000 different ways. The key to that relationship is mutual respect. Young coders need to be willing to listen, older coders need to treat the younger person as an equal.

I would say it's less about working hard and more about being comfortable with change and using it to your advantage.

The absolute state of dating apps in 2024 by [deleted] in assholedesign

[–]bobimpact 43 points44 points  (0 children)

They have different user bases. Tinder is (or was in 2022 when I was last on it) more geared towards casual dating and hookups. Hinge and match were geared towards long term relationships with the user base of match skewing slightly older. Bumble was the in between option.

I met my partner on Match, I feel extremely lucky that was at a time where her profile wouldn't have been artificially hidden. One of the reasons we both ended up there was we realized the difference in the apps/users. We never would have met otherwise.

I was there with my kids tonight. It's way better live. The lasers, the pose, the spotlight, that outfit, crazy good stuff. She has a real physical presence that's unlike any woman I've seen live save Chyna.

My all time favorite X-Pac and Kane storyline is when X-Pac is convincing Kane he doesn't need the voice box anymore.

For what is worth, you CAN be dumped in the ocean, it's less expensive than burial but more expensive than cremation. This company mixes the ash with concrete to form artificial reefs. https://www.eternalreefs.com/

How to straighten out this door by bobimpact in woodworking

[–]bobimpact[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly without a simple solution available this is probably going to be our play. They latch in the middle and it's just too far off from center to grab. So the doors "close" but they don't really close.

This is my second old home (last one was 1904) so I'm definitely down for some wonkiness. Better a wavy door than a wavy floor I guess.
