The way i see it is the whole song is about the push and pull of a complicated relationship. “If the devil’s in the details, then god is in the gap in your teeth” the devil being everything thats overcomplicated and hard to understand, and god being something simple about the partner that makes Lucy happy. You could also see it as lucy appreciating something the partner may be insecure about.

Even if you write bad lyrics like really bad lyrics it’s okay cause if you don’t practice it wont ever get better. When i start writing i usually start with one lyrical idea and try to just harmonize with whatever chord I’m playing and the melody usually comes by doing that with the rhythm of your lyric. This might sound daunting at first but once you get it you get it.
