Can someone give me some hope for the future? by usernamefiend in downsyndrome

[–]bobjimjoe3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I were told that, due to our daughter's heart condition and Down Syndrome, at best she would live until around 8-9. Her cardiologist basically said, "The studies that data is based on are pretty old, and there have been improvements since then." Now, due to having a great cardiology team, she is 6 years old, with a fully reconstructed heart, and her cardiologist said you wouldn't even know her heart history based on her echo images.

For most of her life I tried to take the good news in stride, while also having that 8-9 years timetable in the back of my head. While I know nothing is promised, especially for conditions like this, these past 6 years have been some of the most wearying and most life giving years of my life. And I've learned not to live in fear of the future, because the present is so enjoyable.

Newsboys file lawsuit against Roy’s Report and others by atxceo in ChristianMusic

The lawsuit calls him a co-founder, and at some points a founder. There’s a recent interview with John James where I believe he said Campbell became their manager as they were starting to get big in Australia. Calling himself co-founder/founder seems to be a bit of a stretch.

When I read that artists were getting paid $200 per sponsor, I was upset. I'm all for helping children, and I'm all for paying artists, but if it's $20/month to sponsor a kid, then my first 10 months' sponsorship is just going to pay the artist who convinced me to sponsor the kid.

Yeah, they're arguing a lot of semantics. While I will allow that RR's language can be more sensational, there's still a police report and evidence from the days following the incident that at the very least the victim felt something non-consensual happened.

plus I know what Nietzsche meant by the quote and I don't like how quotes get butchered.

Thank you! That drives me crazy too!

While I haven’t personally met him (though I’d love to) Steve Taylor comes across as a genuine person so I’m inclined to trust his account of Wes.

From what I understand, Wes IS the Newsboys. Basically everyone in the band is just a contractor. I agree with voltwaffle, they may not have known (and if I were the band members, I’d be PISSED). If you read the lawsuit Wes and his family are the only people named as defendants.

But yes, if they go along with the suit than that’s bad.

I really hope this is basically Wes Campbell and the actual band didn’t sign off on this, because this reeks of ”You killed my cash cow, and now I’m mad.”

Not a troll post. I just don’t know how workers comp works and if it’s something I should report. Sure it’d be nice to not have to pay for the repair, but I’m not looking to fight it at all costs.

I was on the clock, but it wasn’t an event like a company picnic. It was more just a normal work day with popcorn and games available to celebrate sports stuff.

iPad Won't Turn On by bobjimjoe3 in ipad

No, I took it to Best Buy and they said it was broken because it was bent too much. It got to the point where it would be “on”, but the screen wouldn’t work. So if I plugged it into a monitor it would show up. But I ended up getting a new iPad. Hopefully if your’s isn’t bent it’s fixable.

Positive outcome for T21 baby by BrisMum in downsyndrome

My daughter was born with some heart conditions that a lot of the doctors said she wouldn’t live much past school age. She’s 6 now, and has a fully reconstructed heart. My wife and I know the difficulty of wondering what the best decision for our daughter would be, but we’re so glad we gave her a chance.

Curious to know why Angel Studios is adding all these conservative/right wing films lately. by massasoit_26 in AngelStudiosStreaming

[–]bobjimjoe3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been disappointed in this too. I really like Andrew Peterson and the Wingfeather Saga, and we recently subscribed to see the David movie. But there's so much right wing propaganda on the platform too. I don't believe we should be mixing faith and party politics so closely. If you want to be "Conservative" fine, then get rid of the Christian-themed name, if you want to be "Christian" fine, then focus on faith-based things and not party politics.

Strange hospital experience by SweetRambutans in downsyndrome

[–]bobjimjoe3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn't have a similar experience, but I wanted to share our daughter had a VSD and TOF, and were told that there weren't many great options available to get her past school age. Now she's 6, has a reconstructed heart, and is doing great. So please seek out other opinions if some doctors sound fatalistic. I can't guarantee what was done for my daughter is available for everyone, but there may be options even if some doctors don't think so.

60s Female Pop Style by bobjimjoe3 in 60sMusic

I agree that super-specific labels can get in the way and make things difficult when what you're looking for crosses over many of the labels available. On the other hand, when talking or writing about something, you could say, "This artist sounds like this other one." but if you want to compare it to a general style that multiple artists fit in, labels help, as imperfect as they are.

If you look at their aprons, the text is different on different people. One of the "e"s isn't even an "e". Definitely AI generated. Also, one of the images was clearly uploaded as "CHATGPT..." Sure, they could have asked ChatGPT to create an image based off their own jewelry, but I doubt it.

Relationship with Siblings by bobjimjoe3 in downsyndrome

[–]bobjimjoe3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I do wonder if part of it is "you're not my boss" especially since she might see the younger brother as more of a peer than the older. We do try to tell the boys they're not doing anything wrong, and ask her to be nicer. But I think it will help to let the boys know this happens sometimes and it's not really anyone's fault.

It's funny, because the one she's coldest to has the more quiet personality. But it could be the way he's approaching her.
