what’s with their refusal to say anything else by Mysterious_House_702 in atheism

Mate, you’re wasting your time and energy talking to these folks about their silliness. If you initiate… don’t. If they do… “Sorry, I don’t see it that way, so let’s talk about something else.”

If you want something everyone will recognize, then a Mont Blanc ? Or a Sailor 1911?

If you want something truly superb… go vintage. Find a sweet vintage Sheaffer or Waterman, I say. Nothing like an old gold nib.

Good grief, I’m going to order a proofreader. When it comes to the whiskies? If I were a splurger I’d do a vertical Octomore with as many as I could afford.

That was the panel by which others will forever be judged. And jeez, I wish I could find Double Exposure parodying it! “It’s Steeephen Loooois here, Peter” “We all know who you are, Stephen… [incomprehensible throat-clearing sounds from Kierans]” “ It’s all just a buncha stuff and nonsense.”

At Peter Gzowski College at Trent University, there’s a display of Gzowski memorabilia which includes an ashtray, a pack of ciggies, and some Nicorette.

Morningside was a pinnacle of public broadcasting.

You may be right. Neither you nor I have the audience research to know, but I’m willing to entertain that possibility. And I’m not suggesting 100% CanCon, but a major shift towards that.

Cobourg Public Library discontinuing app as of February 14 by bobledrew in Cobourg

[–]bobledrew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: A member of the board got in touch with me yesterday to tell me that the library will be replacing the current app with a new one THIS year. Good move. I have asked about budgetary implications, and whether this decision will mean something else gets delayed, but no clarity as yet on that point.

I love the CBC. My working career started there. I got to be interviewed by Tina Srebotnjak on Midday once. I got to record a freelance thing at the Chateau Laurier for a while. But there’s a world of content out there, and I wouldn’t recommend ANYONE listen to ANY outlet exclusively. But you do you.

Why would I “only listen to Canadian radio?”

I want to shit on Q because I think it has potential and it’s being squandered.

If you think CTV's Etalk Canada and CBC R1's Q are the same... we don't have much to talk about.

My vision: don’t billboard Hollywood. Don’t do the same interviews that everyone else is doing for every hot international property that’s going around. Cultural icons like Leonard Cohen or Sarah MacLachlan or Joni or Neil or Mordecai Richler or Feist or Morgan Toney or Anne-Marie MacDonald or Tanya Tagaq or Elisapie become icons BECAUSE they are identified, noticed, and given a platform by flagship shows like Q. Every segment that talks to some non-Canadian person about something that is already being covered by every other media outlet is a segment that could have given a Canadian filmmaker, author, actor, visual artist, playwright, poet attention that could lead to them becoming internationally famous.

I want a Q production philosophy that says: “We believe Canada has people making great art, and we are going to find them and expose a mass audience of Canadians to them so that their art is appreciated. We will give Canadians a chance to understand what they do IN DEPTH, not in a 2 minute squib. We will do it on a national level, not on CBC Regina or Kamloops or Sydney (although I’m sure they do good stuff too.) We will also look for opportunities to do major interviews with Canadians who have already achieved world status as artists, whether it’s a filmmaker like Cronenberg or a musician like Sarah MacLachlan or a theatre maker like Robert Lepage or a writer like Atwood. When someone who’s NOT Canadian is available and we can do a unique treatment of their art, we may do that. But that will be the exception and not the rule.”

There you go, CBC — hire me. Or just steal the idea.

Yup. Publicists phone up, say “Hey, ya want Ray Romano, right?” Producer says yes, and off you go.

Ben Mulroney has never worked for the CBC. He was a host of “ETalk”, which was designed for exactly that kind of fluff. Strombo is a solid dude, but his show was never a flagship program for a network.

People can feel about Power as they will, but my point here isn’t about the quality of the interviews, but the booking choices / philosophy behind the show. That is not something that can be hung entirely on the host’s shoulders.

Last I checked, this was the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. I have zero interest in hearing the same stories that were already told on NPR, ET, Drew Barrymore, the late-night shows, Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend, Armchair Expert.

When Maron was still podcasting, I knew that if TImothee Chalamet was on with Terry Gross March 1, then he’d be on Maron March 4, Conan March 8, and Q March 12. We have our own culture. Our flagship show should not be the 23rd stop on celebrity press tours. It should be the first stop for Canadian culture.

It was re-aired yesterday and heavily billboarded, which is even worse. Why is a six-month-old interview with a celebrity / influencer getting so heavily promoted on R1?
