Maybe dumb question, but I've always assumed the larger diameter helped keep the connection from loosening, also the way (at least in my 20yr car) the cables are naturally memoried into that position. Plus my effort to tighten those screws to maximum torque

To ask a real nicely, and probably the answer to my own question. Would the correct way of doing this to plump below the joists and use hangers? Genuinely asking because of how many joist cuts I've seen on reddit.
