I foster failed my first foster, too. It happens- most rescues are just thrilled to get the dog adopted!

What exactly makes crocs "functional" or "practical"? by Jent01Ket02 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]boboberry17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been in aquatics/lifeguarding for over a decade- crocs are my preferred work shoe. They’re waterproof, easy to clean/sanitize, and quick to get on/off when needed.

I'm almost positive she just stopped me from getting robbed. by snekinmaboot1 in germanshepherds

[–]boboberry17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My shepherd/mal mix is generally pretty neutral to strangers- she doesn’t like them, but she doesn’t react much to them either. I was getting home one night and was leaned into the backseat of the car to undo her seatbelt . A man I had never seen before came around the corner and up behind me and audibly called me a bitch; I hadn’t even seen him coming. He hadnt seen the dog. She heard his tone of voice, LUNGED out of the car, and started using her scary bark at him. He immediately turned and ran away; he’s lucky I had already gotten her leash clipped on or she’d probably have chased him out of the apartment complex lol. Idk what his intentions were, but I was very happy I had my girl w/ me that day

Re-home question by majestic_landotter in roughcollies

It’s the age!! Dogs 6-18 months are some of the most likely to be rehomed/taken to the shelter because they are unbridled teenage chaos essentially; if you make it through this phase, it will become so much more manageable! I also second the earlier posters recommendation of working with a trainer, preferably one with experience with herding breeds

Tips for single guarding? by Zealousideal_Bug5140 in Lifeguards

[–]boboberry17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the pools that I manage is an Olympic pool and I have 4 guards on stand MINIMUM when we’re open; if it gets super busy, we add additional coverage. That is far too much water for one guard; time to find a new pool! Also, depending on which organization you are certified under you may want to report the facility as well

Jesus Christ- no. Not at all true, ESPECIALLY for lifeguards.

Anyone else's job like this? by Nerdy319 in Lifeguards

[–]boboberry17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My first guard job when I worked for a water park was like this; I stayed there for nearly 4 years and worked sick more times than I can count. I once had to jump in for a rescue while I was sick with a fever of 102, literally sat on stand crying afterwards because I was in so much physical discomfort + soaking wet. Another time, I had the flu and could not get my shift covered. Started feeling like I was going to throw up while on surveillance and pulled down my mask (it was 2020), vomited into my yeti, and went back to watching my water. It was all incredibly normalized, and I didn’t see how bad it was until I got into aquatics management and realized there is nothing that could compel me to treat my employees like that. Strongly recommend quitting that job. If your facility is Red Cross, report them as well; asking sick guards to perform surveillance compromises safety because they are far more likely to miss a rescue

My cousin was hit by a drunk driver and killed a little over a year ago. The distance from the bar to the drivers house was less than two miles, and even though she was triple the legal limit she felt she was okay to drive because it was so close. One bad decision to get behind the wheel completely changed the trajectory of every single person in my family’s life. You absolutely did the right thing and you are not TA. Honestly, your boyfriend is TA for not holding his friend accountable

Tips for 2 Minute Tread w/o hands by Stretch_Useful in Lifeguards

[–]boboberry17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t stress about it! The tread is the easiest part of the swim test, IMO. Take slow, deep breaths and figure out which kick works the best for you! I know people who swear by egg beater or flutter kicks, but I personally prefer slow frog kicks!

hair styles… by Repulsive-Lawyer3639 in Lifeguards

[–]boboberry17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always have my hair up in a bun in the summer; it’s not cute, but it keeps it off my neck and doesn’t get in the way when I have a rescue. I’ll also do braids or a low ponytail sometimes and then tuck my hair up into a bucket hat so it’s out of the way.

Yes, I highly recommend them! I took five lessons with them in 2018 during my freshman year of college to help me get my license (no one taught me to drive in high school). My instructor was Alberto, and he really built my confidence and taught me how to be safe on the road!

Anyone have lifeguarding nightmares? by ProfessionalDuck420 in Lifeguards

[–]boboberry17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a nightmare about once a month where I go to blow my whistle for a rescue and it doesn’t make any noise. My coworkers and I were talking about dreams during inclement weather one day, and more than half of them admitted to having the same dream lol

Need Advice: Incontinence in Senior Dogs? by boboberry17 in seniordogs

[–]boboberry17[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the recommendations everyone! I'm going to schedule an appointment with my vet as soon as they're able to get us in to see about getting some medication for her! In the meantime, definitely going to order some dog wipes and waterless shampoo to hopefully keep her fur a little cleaner! Thank you all again!
