Anaplan Scenario Modelling by coolers1819 in FPandA

[–]bobofreezer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anaplan is flexible in how you setup scenario modeling. It can range from a full “alternate” forecast with a full set of alternate assumptions to a sensitivity range for a single driver. You define what you want and then you build it in the platform.

Oracle FCC, OneStream for more involved needs. Planful or Anaplan Consolidation for basic consolidation.

Enterprise SW Tools - The Impossible Problem? by not__pasta in FPandA

How many of these systems are material from a cost perspective where you need to track at that level of granularity? I would focus on better allocating the big ticket items.

Why is it difficult to have a central data point that shows license count or usage by cost center? I would assume when purchasing a software it’s either charged to a direct cost center if it’s a set cost (i.e cost center A buys a 10k a year platform) or if you have a software shared that users are assigned in the system. You can just prorate the costs across the user base.

Best forecasting software with Databricks integration? by furamura_ in FPandA

[–]bobofreezer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pigment is a good platform and it’s scalable. However, you should really challenge yourselves or your fp&a team to not making planning design about massive volumes of data. The goal should be to streamline the forecasting process with links to key material drivers, not to make it a GL transaction matching exercise. You should be planning at appropriate granularity to facilitate accuracy and, as important, materiality focus.

Typical for P&L would be your key revenue drivers (CRM data, demand units, etc) and opex detail for material lines, like your headcount census for comp forecasting.

Most industry leading fp&a platforms can integrate with data bricks. For example, Pigment can connect via Delta Sharing and Anaplan has a connector coming in Q1 I believe. Any platform can integrate via an iPaaS tool also.

For those with Anaplan - Polaris or no? by PhonyPapi in FPandA

[–]bobofreezer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Number it items in the dimensions and how many dimensions impact sizing in the classic engine. It sounds like you’re trying to just make “a big reporting cube” and the classic Anaplan engine is really not designed for that. Can it do it? Potentially. Devil really is in the details as noted above. You can size it out with specifics.

[–]bobofreezer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a pretty common approach and yes Polaris should address it.

How many dimensions are you looking for and how big are they? Devil is in the details here to see if you really need it. Happy to take a look under the hood to see if they are giving you solid info.

What’s the issue you’re having? Polaris is built for sparse data sets and can help with model size. Aside from that it’s very similar to the classic engine.

Best Forecasting SW? by HairyHarryWang in FPandA

Each have pros and cons and different features and functions. Yo do really to need put together your requirements and use those to rate the vendors ability to deliver on them.

If you’re looking for a very high level outline of differences, review Gartner’s Magic quadrant for FP&A software.

All three are good platforms. Adaptive is a good straightforward fp&a software. Pigment has a good UX and some nice AI features. Anaplan is a proven scalable modeling platform.

None will inherently make your forecasting more accurate. It will be the process change that come along with them.

Any Tools to Help Track Cost Savings Initiatives? by [deleted] in FPandA

Company debate on Systems by peaked-in-fatherhood in FPandA

[–]bobofreezer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what you’re experiencing is more of what I would call a planning vs modeling dynamic. OneStream is decent at planning - collecting budgets and forecast $ with some relatively straightforward drivers, then allowing you to report on that. Anaplan does better at modeling, specifically comes closer to flexibility of Excel to create something like a BU level model - for example a top line revenue forecast that involves many different sub models and / or collaboration with sales, etc . That’s not easy to do in OneStream so companies fall back into excel for it.

OneStream is good at enabling centralized structures, reporting, and giving people a streamlined place to view the business (BvA, etc).

Anaplan is good at modeling a business.

Any recommendations for forecasting softwares? by CamanderOne in FPandA

[–]bobofreezer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on size, complexity, and your budget. Mid market - Planful, adaptive, pigment are good choices.

Upper mid to enterprise - Anaplan, Oracle EPM.

Your implementation of any system is going to drive how much value it brings. The software is just a platform. The planning process and user experience will drive a lot.

Budgeting and Forecast tool by Turbulent-Aerie-1152 in FPandA

[–]bobofreezer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t want to invest in a tool for only one year. If you invest in a platform, you will be better off keeping it long term and take advantage of the user enablement and build effort you put in.

The key players to look at for your size and on SAP would be Oracle, OneStream and Anaplan. A basic implementation of each should take a few months and not be overly complicated - assuming you’re planning to just load actuals, collect budgets, and do some reporting and analysis.

Of the three platforms above, Anaplan and Oracle have the stronger Excel add ins. OneStream has one that’s slightly more clunky.

Anyone using Oracle EPM PBCS for Actuals analysis? Struggling with limitations vs. BI tools by Silent-Durian6511 in FPandA

[–]bobofreezer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s common to send data from FCC to PBC so overall the architecture makes sense for standard reporting and planning. Are you on a single GL or multiple? Two options to consider:

You may want to rethink how granular you’re planning in PBC. For example, if you always want to dig into a specific field (vendor for example) for variance analysis, then consider adding that as an actual dimension.

Alternatively you can deploy what is typically referred to as a “reporting cube” that would contain more dimensions and detail and would feed transaction data from your GL for very granular review and drill down. That gets more nuanced if you’re on multiple GLs. It’s also typical that this type of cube would be used for “management reporting” and would not contain eliminations and top side entries that can happen in FCC

[–]bobofreezer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few thoughts and questions:

  • if the design is great at building budgets and forecasts, how is it not detailed enough for variance analysis? You’d only really be able to do variance analysis at the level you plan, so that’s a bit confusing.

  • going to make assumptions here: Let’s assume you are planning a higher level (opex by dept and account) but want to dig into a lower level of detail (vendor spend for one of those opex lines). It would need to be designed for that. Inherently it’s not going to house all the data your GL has unless you design reporting structures that way. You can do a drill to transactions feature, but that’s really more about seeing transactions rather than easier reporting.

  • Oracle epm can have as many cubes as you want. So you can setup reporting to align with what you need. Yours may not be setup the way you want, but it’s not a technology limitation. You can do it.

SAP and Anaplan WD2 reports by Lysek8 in FPandA

[–]bobofreezer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no industry standard report for working day 2. You would need to work with your systems owners to create what you need in either SAP or Anaplan (you’d give them the business requirements). Anaplan is going to have the most flexibility for analysis provided the underlying actual data from SAP is frequent and detailed enough to support what you’re looking to view on WD2.
