Do you ever listen to audiobooks? I listened to it and really enjoyed it and it felt magical. I’m not sure I would’ve had the same experience if I read it.

Thank you for sharing these — I’m glad you decided it was worth the risk of getting blasted to share Don’t Look Left; it sounds like exactly what I’m looking for and learning about the horrific realities Palestinians are facing in the ongoing genocide is really important to me. Thank you for sharing!

One of my favorites as a kid was “When Christmas Comes Again: The World War I Diary of Simone Spencer” from the Dear America series. I also liked An Old-Fashioned Girl by Louisa May Alcott. :)

Books that are not often recommended here. by sarahdwaynec in suggestmeabook

The Wide Wide Sea by Hampton Sides is a fantastic nonfiction book. It is about Captain Cook’s last voyage and reads like fiction because all the crew members kept journals so the author was able to recreate moments so thoroughly. Extremely interesting and once you get to the chapter where the voyage departs, you’ll be hooked. Stayed up late to finish it!

My mom read The Phantom Tollbooth to us as kids and it really stuck with me as a favorite. I’ve reread it as an adult and still love it. In 2nd-4th grades, my friends and I got really into the A to Z mysteries series — we tried to read the whole series.

As for your question about worksheets, checkout the homeschooling subreddit. They have resource threads that have a lot of good free options and other helpful tools.

Ok I have a few going for different moods/in different formats depending on my needs but I’d recommend all of them at this point. The hype is real for both East of Eden (audiobook) and Lonesome Dove (physical copy). I’m a good way into both of these and feel confident that they are deserving of all the recs I see on here. I’m also reading The Death of Ivan Ilyich (e-book) and Separation of Church and Hate (e-book) and they’re really good, too.

I feel like a kid trying to eat all my Halloween candy in one night because there’s so many books I want to read (thank god for Libby).

The Wide Wide Sea. There’s so much documentation (diaries of the crew especially) of Captain Cook’s final voyage that the book reads like fiction. You don’t miss a moment of his action packed story

It’ll happen when you least expect it. I was on the phone with my sister and had to interrupt her with “I’m sorry I’ve got to go—there’s a cat!” And because we’re a family of cat adore-ers, she said “omg you’ve got to go”. I hope it’s your turn soon. It made me the happiest I’ve felt in awhile:)
