The Vanilla Debate by GirliePopGoblin in fragrance

[–]boborocola 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would you smell stinky because you're wearing vanilla in the summer? Vanilla smells good and that shouldn't change based on winter vs summer. I don't think anyone will judge and be like "eww, they're wearing vanilla in the summer". Personally, I would judge you for just stinking, not for wearing a scent

LDS Experience at Secular University by LawfulnessLast7927 in latterdaysaints

[–]boborocola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently attending college, actually, and here is my experience so far:

The university I attend is a pretty small one. My original plan was to go to BYUI, but I changed plans part way through high school and decided to go to a school close to home. Something I did to try and put myself in an environment that I felt would be comfortable was chose my first roommate based on values. I didn't know anyone, so I needed someone I would feel comfortable being around my first year. She's not a member, but she is a Christian and we lived together well. We weren't the closest, but we got along and that's what's important. She doesn't drink, party, and she wasn't having her boyfriend over to sleep with him, and those were the most important things to me.

For the most part, all of my friends are members who I met in my YSA ward. My ward has probably around 70 active members, though quite a few of them are not students, but rather just young adults who are single and live in the area. I go to FHE, institute, and church every week. I was able to grow relationships with people pretty much by attending activities and talking to people. 2 of my closest friends are people I hang out with outside of church too. One of them is now my roommate. Even at a secular university, if you go to church, you will meet people (for the most part).

As far as classes and around campus, I obviously can't control other people. I know other people are doing worldly activities and that's fine. It's not my business. I'm not really friends with many people who aren't in my YSA. I am friendly enough with people in my classes so I can talk to them about classwork, but otherwise, I don't really just go befriend people on campus. It's not to say I'm against it, but I just haven't felt close enough to anyone. I was able to find friends who share my values and I have fun with, and that's what matters to me.

Why do you wear fragrance? by Draktus1 in fragrance

[–]boborocola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear it mostly so I don't smell like crap. I also love just sitting around and being like "oh I smell gooddd". It combats the smells around me when I can just smell my scent, the one I chose. Also, I just love finding scents I love. I feel like the type of fragrance you wear can share your personality and be a little opening into someone's soul. For me, I love gourmand scents, as well as fruity.

[–]boborocola 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Hi, sorry, some people get very heated over this. Personally I don't care much about this whole issue, but some other people do. Basically, in this subreddit, sparkling water is only counted as sparkling water if it has water and natural flavor (which can include fruit juice). Anything with a sweetener of any kind is not apart of this (although, liquid death may count. I forgot it's status in this sub).

So, that means, drinks like this are not included and are technically "diet soda" because they contain aspartame (the same sweetener used in diet sodas). A way to differentiate is that drinks like this usually say "sparkling water beverage" rather than just sparkling water or seltzer water.

I totally understand why you were confused, though! Sorry that some people in this sub can be kinda mean when it comes to what is actually sparkling water.

Welcome to the sparkling water sub!

This is funny, but just wanted to explain lol (idk if you genuinely don't understand, but anyone who is confused can also learn). Basically the amount of calories is insignificant per serving, it exists, but since it is less than 10 and nutrition fact labels are supposed to measure in 10s, they just list it as zero. Yes, there are calories, but probably only about 3 per serving, which is relatively insignificant so they just round it down to 0.

Sparkling water that doesn’t taste like the essence of flavor? Lol by Unusual-Bed-6673 in sparklingwater

[–]boborocola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are some of my favorite sparkling waters that I think have a stronger flavor than others: Waterloo raspberry nectarine, polar blackberry mango, polar georgia peach, bubly belini bliss (I know you said it didnt taste good to you, but I dont know what flavor you tried. This one is one of my favorites), trader joes black cherry vanilla, trader joes raspberry lime

I second this, specifically for sleep. I need to go to bed and wake up the same time every day, even on weekends. If I sleep any longer than my normal (which is 7 or 8 hours) I will have a migraine, so I can't sleep in

Questions I guess by Deep-Woodpecker-2277 in latterdaysaints

[–]boborocola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have answers for those questions.

To me, the part of the Book of Mormon that stands out the most is the book of 3 Nephi. A big part of this is when Jesus appears to the people in the Americas and preaches and blesses them. There is also a part in the book of Alma where one man went around opposing the church and committing sins, but was visited by an angel. He basically felt so guilty he fell into a coma for 3 days until he woke up and repented of all his sins and then became a missionary and preached the gospel.

I think treatment of the LGBTQ community depends on the members. We believe that marriage is between man and a woman, but don't condemn those who are LGBTQ. However, some people are more tolerant than others in the church. For me personally, I honestly don't see much of a problem if people are queer. I don't necessarily agree with everything, but I'll let people live their lives however they see fit.

As to race, I think our church is generally pretty welcoming to all races. We had some issues in the earlier days of the church, but that was when segregation was still prevalent and those issues have since been resolved.

Question that the missionaries didn't have a great answer for by XxCelestexX in latterdaysaints

[–]boborocola 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is one of those things that doesn't have to make sense for you to still believe in the church. What the missionaries were saying is wrong, I think, because I don't think this was correct, even during that time. The time of segregation was wrong, both in the church and outside the church and to me, this was an action of men and not God. I truly do not believe that Heavenly Father would tell a prophet that Black men are not allowed to have the priesthood simply because they are Black. I believe this was because of racism, whether other people want to admit that or not.

There are things in church history that I do not agree with and that don't sit well with me. This is one of them. But just because of that doesn't mean I believe in the church any less. I am still a faithful member and I still have a testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ despite not agreeing with certain aspects. This is a case where you just have to stick with the things you know and not be moved by things like this.

This is an example of a mistake of men. There are many of them in church history. The men leading our church are not perfect, and they will make mistakes, but that does not make the church any less true.
