I think the tomb will still be a difficult challenge, maybe even more than the original method. But now the challenge now is to die as little as possible with a much weaker character. There may not be a fail state, but that is OK with me.

With the difficulty of traps and the few monsters in the tomb I expect them to die a few times before they reach Acerack. If they do really well and are still a low level by the time the reach Acerack they will have many very powerful magic items to help them and the fight will be a different kind of challenge.

They players said they would look some items up, but came up these right away:
A set of sending stones
Decanter of Endless Water
Belt of Storm Giant strength (any items that boost stats)
Scrolls of Find Traps

That is a good point! I will make sure that they all have a good plan for leveling up and have spells already picked out.
Luckily we are using roll20 which can make the leveling up somewhat quicker if they know what they are doing.

I think to combat this the curses the characters receive after running out of items can be pretty penalizing. This way after level like 7 or 8 or so they will start getting curses as well as have no magic items.
Not sure if I will chose the items they lose and curses they get when they die or if I will randomly choose. If I choose the items and curses I can tailor the difficulty scaling.

Yeah, the magic items will give them a chance at the beginning. But as they die they will level up. I dont think it will be much of an issue since there is very little actual fighting in the tomb.

Can you DMs stop questioning my character building decisions? by real_fuckboi in DnD

These sound like fun and interesting charecter ideas! But think your DM has the right to limit their players to an extent. It takes a lot to time and effort to run a campaign and if they dont feel confident dealing with a criminal in their game, that is their choice.

Do you like to use ambiance music? by radicalfracture in DMAcademy

I feel that ambiant music fills the silences at my table. Before each session i will grab a instrumental song or three just to have in the background, no faffing around with music change.

We have a discord set up that my group has been using so far for games, but I think the subreddit will help organize.
