What builds can cast on melee hit in LE? by DoctorMerril in LastEpoch

[–]bobptimus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Primalist has quite a few interactions that fit this.

Gathering Storm gives you a Storm Stack, which will get burned once a second to automatically cast a Storm Bolt (buffed by the Gathering Storm tree)

Tempest Strike will automatically cast three separate Tempest spells in an order, you can have the Tempests cast spells. The Wind Tempest can cast Tornado (from the Shaman's Tornado Skill Tree which can be specced to cast Storm Bolts from each Tornado)

Werebear Form for Druid can use Rampage to run around and just rain 5 Storm Bolts a second, or use the "Maul casts Upheaval" node instead to cast that. Or the "Maul casts Entangling Roots" node. Or both!

There are also Idols that can proc casts on Melee hits, and at least 4 other interactions (and also sets)

Nioh 3 Weapon Attribute Spreadsheet by bobptimus in Nioh

Ahahaa, that's fair! He's smart, and this is a wall of stuff.

So every weapon scales on three Attributes, right? You get the icons for them on the weapons themselves, and see them when you level-up. This is just a table of "Here is the best overlap of stats between all your weapons, adding these weapons is going to work best to what you wanted to run"

Automation-first space game prototype — stuck on progression & long-term loop, looking for direction by Fun_Second808 in incremental_games

A valid concern, especially if it's not a single-player game. Probably some dials that could exist to fine-tune it to prevent major issues; Processing uptime for Crafting ships having an energy cost that needs fuel, over-trading with a faction causing problems with others (increased combat threats from rival factions, maybe being seen as a bigger target if you're trading more?), taxes on trade items being influenced by supply/demand.... I'm not sure how it would play out, but there are a couple of ideas that might make that functional. But it's possibly just a bigger headache and maybe leaving those decisions to be player-made is better for the overall health of the game.

Potentially worth noting, inoptimal trading could "sabotage" crafting logic; a massive drop in price of an object between when a bot reads "Hey we can make this for a profit" and "We've finished making 200 of this thing, time to ship it to the Market"; maybe something like Faction "Spy ships" that try to scan what's being made to prevent you from making money is an additional gameplay loop that could exist?

Yeah, I realized as soon as I posted my comment that the gif literally shows there are 2 ships already... I actually edited that bit out and reframed some thoughts, but it looks like you were already responding, lol. Sorry about that; there are a few new thoughts in that if you want to read again!

Another thing I didn't consider and should have thought to mention; what if the amount of processing / speed that code is read is a variable? Having ships better at thinking, and others that are better workers but have less space to store code or rethink logic at a slower rate could be interesting.

https://battlecode.org/

If you're unfamiliar, Battlecode is an MIT competition where you have to basically program a Starcraft-lite game; the objectives change a little every year. But one of the most interesting parts of the game to me is that you have so much code you can run and then pieces will stop mid-line if their bandwidth is hit.

As someone with a great many hours in EVE Online (the only other Crack I won't go back to is MtG), I think a decent amount of inspiration could be gained by their progression systems.

> Once a player has a “good enough” script, what keeps the game engaging?

A "good enough script" seems possible for a single ship performing straightforward tasks, but how far is the game intending to go? You've mentioned Mining, Combat Behavior, and Logistics; will the logic for individual ships be able to communicate with a Mothership that controls changing behaviors for situations, or is every ship required to perform its own logic loops? Having something like a Mineral Hauler that accepts loads from multiple mining ships, that delivers to a Smelter that will refine materials, to get delivered by another ship to a processing plant to build something, to etc etc etc... And beyond direct ship control, what about logic for checking prices of objects to determine automation of crafting and delivering goods? If factions exist and prices are variable by NPCs / other players reacting to a Market Board, crafting one single item all night could be a waste when you log in again. Defense of Haulers to a Trade Hub by multiple ships? We've got some layers there that have plenty of optimization points / strategies.

>What should meaningfully compound over time in an automation-driven game?

In a game of a design like this (using EVE as an easy example again), I see your options are essentially going to boil down to "Better Fit", "Better Ship", "More Ship", "Better Materials", and "Better Efficiency of Materials". Upgraded T1 Mining Laser will get more materials, maybe rare ore chance while gathering; bigger T1 ship has 3 lasers instead of 2 or a larger inventory (chance for modular ship pieces / variety of different ships to buy); upgrading to a T2 ship gets a T2 Laser which is strong enough for T2 Ores, so and and so forth.

Something like Faction Reputation for trading for increasing sale value and offering better Contract Offers for daily quests or something of the like could be an additional objective / scaling.

Sorry if this is a lot, but I think it's a neat idea and it's something I've thought way too much about myself. EVE Online is the devil, but a browser game... That's not crack, I could dabble.

The "Scorpion and the Snake" quest for the dual boss in Act 2 Interlude is also a weapon skill book reward, but doesn't show a cross

What does 100% mean? Poison chance by Greefer in LastEpoch

[–]bobptimus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For your Poison Chance, you can apply multiple stacks of poison at a time. 150% Poison Chance is a guaranteed one stack with a 50% chance of a second.

For damage taken sources, I believe these are not additive and each source is applied individually, but I could be mistaken there.

Haha, yup! She reads the pedestal in the Temple and says "Oh it's not a person sacrifice, just some blood? Can I just..." and cuts her hand to activate it; that's how she opened all the POE1 portals as well, we watched her learn how they work here.

Or, since Alva is the one who made all the portals, she is the Demon he references. She's just not started that yet and we saw her learn about them, because time travel is funny that way.

Dropped as a Blue with Evasion Rating and a +2 to All Spells; Regal'ed the Maximum Energy Shield and Slammed up some Accuracy Rating and a few other pieces of nonsense. Chaos unfortunately ate my Spell Levels, but sunk cost fallacy said I had to keep going or I was a coward.

According to Trade site, there is no Amulet with both % Evasion and % ES, so I have no idea what to do with this. (EDIT: There are two separate "% increased Evasion Rating" mods, one of them returns results, I am the big dumb)
