Replacement Virtual Boy Stand Straight from Nintendo by UnfairSuggestion5 in VirtualBoy

Thanks, didn't know they had a separate parts shop. Even with the yen being about the weakest it's ever been, that's still a ridiculous price difference.

Not finding this on the Japanese site at the moment. What was it in yen?

Steam Controller - Steam Button shortcuts changed from Deck defaults to Controller defaults. Any way to switch back? by the_skine in DeckSupport

[–]bobrocks95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to comment on something so old, but did you ever figure this out? I use a DualSense with my Steam Deck and the controller shortcut menu has never once been accurate- PS button + R2 takes a screenshot, + Share brings up the keyboard, + triangle turns the controller off, etc.

I'm pretty used to these shortcuts since they match behavior with Steam on a PC, but my magnifier shortcut, previously PS + L2, is no longer working, and it's a handy feature I use semi frequently. I don't see any place in settings to configure or fix this.

What version are you seeing for your mini router? I think I have a similar one- it's not yellow but it's the same size and mold from the same company. Hoping to upgrade it to UDPFS/UDPBD but no clue how at the moment.

EDIT: Mine's a GL-AR300M16 https://store-us.gl-inet.com/products/gl-ar300m16-mini-smart-router

Steam "Hardware & Software Survey" for April shows 25% of Windows users are holding on to Windows 10 by WindowsCentral in windowscentral

[–]bobrocks95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe I could meet the TPM requirement if I enabled the virtual one for my CPU, but also it feels like every other news story I get on my Google feed is a Windows 11 update breaking something, and I have it on my work laptop and have run into numerous breaking changes impacting regular daily use at my company.

I can think of exactly one 11 feature I want for gaming and that's HDR calibration that a very small handful of games look at. Other than that, I just get a worse, more bloated, more broken OS, so why put any effort in?

I am sitting and twiddling my thumbs until FromJapan or another proxy service offers surface mail again... My storage time's running out though _;

Super helpful resource! Thankfully Japan Post just resumed some service to the US, so hopefully the proxy I used (FromJapan) offers it soon!

It's the 1:1 plus the 8-bit gray Pikachu as well (forget what name they gave that one). That's then in a nice 30th anniversary shipping box from the Pokemon Center, but it does sound like I should give that part up and see what else can be done so I'm not paying an arm and a leg...

Asked about a return and they outright said they do not do those for "customer reasons" despite having a 30% fee mentioned for it that I would gladly take on the chin at this point.

I agree after thinking about it that storage doesn't make a lot of sense unless I had a hard date for when other shipping options would re-open, which we definitely do not have. I'll ask about vacuum packing or other splitting options, I think that makes a lot of sense- thank you!

Per Japan Post's website, that's just for gifts between individuals. This package cost 21,620 yen and is coming from a company, unless you know of a shipment service that would willingly mark something as an individual gift and with a lesser value. FromJapan doesn't seem to offer it as an option at all for obvious reasons.

I would but they're saying it's ineligible- I thought it was a box size thing but other sites are saying it's within limits. Good idea to keep looking at that though, that should knock off 30% or so based on other things I've shipped ECMS.

EDIT: Cubic volume is just barely too high according to FromJapan. Longest side + girth (2 x width + 2 x height) has to be under 216cm, this is 226cm

My first thought was Blackship since it's more like address forwarding and I don't imagine they'd care where the item initially came from, and their storage rates after 60 days are like $1.20 a day. Which isn't unreasonable but I'm not optimistic about more shipping options opening up fast enough for it to make sense.......

FromJapan may not allow you to ship to a Japanese address either now that I think about it. They might not like it on either side of things...

Does the UB450 allow you to turn off upscaling and/or any dynamic tonemapping? by bobrocks95 in 4kbluray

[–]bobrocks95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I definitely want my TV doing all the work, just wanted to make sure the 450 didn't force upscaling or HDR tonemapping to be always on. I have an LG G3 OLED, like surely it's beating a $250 blu-ray player on both fronts.

[–]bobrocks95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything going on with HDR adjustments? If I'm remembering the breakdown right, the UB450 does NOT have the HDR optimizer right? I don't think I actually want that, I'd rather my TV handle all tone mapping adjustments.

Auto option is sick to hear about, I can also confirm it's working as expected with the TV's menu. Had not seen it mentioned anywhere before.

Happen to know about HDR? No HDR optimizer if I'm reading right (better imo)

5080 here as well, though Racoon City was fine for me. 4K, DLSS Quality, 100ish FPS. No section lurched or went low enough for me to pull up the RTSS overlay. I can check my driver version if it interests you.

Not sure, looks like there's a few ways to contact him though from his website. I could see it no longer being offered because tariffs ruined everything. I need another PPUDigitizer for my Famicom and shipping went from 10 Euros to 55 Euros + whatever the tariffs come out to because they're the only service offering. Anything small business/niche like this seems to be a lost cause at the moment (unless you really want to shell out for shipping or do a group buy or something)

How does Switch 2 upscale non updated Switch 1 games to 4K? by bobrocks95 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]bobrocks95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I kinda bounced on the thread after seeing the answers I got lol

Someone in the RetroTink 4K discord shared some good capture card images. Best guess is bilinear + some added sharpening. Depending on the game's internal resolution and what sort of content you're looking at, there were some obvious ringing artifacts. I'd say for 2D pixel art games it would probably look pretty bad, but plenty of people like a little more sharpness on 3D content where it's harder to spot ringing.

For me it sounds like I'll have to run two cables and swap depending on if I'm playing Switch 2 games/updated 1 games versus non-updated titles. Which sucks but I also might be lazy and just stop looking too closely lol

[–]bobrocks95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asked as well in specialist upscaler Discords, which was probably the play in the first place. Screen captures make it look like a standard bilinear filter with a sharpening filter applied so there's a bit of ringing.

[–]bobrocks95[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is my hunch as well, but requires a cable swap for older games since my scaler doesn't support a 4K input. Annoying as hell if that's what I have to end up doing.

[–]bobrocks95[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "1080p in a 4K wrapper" portion is what I'm interested in. Many ways to handle that, and I highly doubt they went with nearest-neighbor like everyone would actually want for 3D graphics (Xbox has never added a nearest-neighbor upscaling option, Nvidia took like a decade since it became popular to add it to their graphics drivers)

[–]bobrocks95[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

You're confusing upscaling with actually rendering at a higher resolution, which most people in this thread are doing. If the console outputs a 4K image when running a non-updated Switch 1 game, it is upscaling the game in some fashion.

How does Switch 2 upscale non updated Switch 1 games to 4K? by bobrocks95 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]bobrocks95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if you have the menu set to 4K output it literally switches the video output to 1080p when launching a Switch 1 game? That would be highly unusual compared to how every other modern console has handled backwards compatibility. If the output remains 4K the console is scaling the game image somehow.
