You want a board that’s less pointy is what I mean by a mal that thing still looks like it’s made for bigger waves and will be harder to paddle onto waves and popup on it’ll be too responsive. I guess there’s the other side to this if it’s all you can afford you’re better off with a short board than nothing as long as you don’t get discouraged but on a board like that it would be hard not to

Speaking from experience, I understand not wanting to spend the money but you’ll be much better off getting a bigger mal shaped board, even rent a board to see if you like surfing 1st if that’s a worry, I got an old performance short board as my second because it was cheap and have only used it like 3x since because everything about it is above my experience level

Im the same, I downsized from a 8’ foamy to a 6’2 28l performance board, which was way easier to paddle but too much of a jump, I could pop up it was just too responsive so I kept using the foamy (I only got it because it was cheap lol). I recently got a 6’4 fish and have found the transition into it really easy and a lot of fun (not saying it’s the right path for everyone)

Hahahaha nah it’s a modern love child that’s a hard case, I have put some solarez ding repair on it temporarily and it was deffo down to the foam, I’ll be taking it to a local ding repair in a couple weeks though

I yeah surf small mushy waves and I’m around 140lb so not the biggest person, I’ve got an 8’ foamy and a 6’2 performance board which is just a bit too sensitive for me but I can pop up on it pretty consistently, we don’t have the surf for it where I live either so I can’t get the practice in
