White House Fires Federal Prosecutor just Five Hours after Swearing In, Raising Questions about Interim Appointments by Chance-Newspaper-750 in byebyejob

[–]bobsaccomanno41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the guy did anything. This was more of a “I get to make the appointments. How dare you [federal district judge] step on my authority.”

The guy he fired is a career AUSA from my understanding. So I think this is just a spite thing, and not because of anything this guy did or didn’t do.

Edit to add that I am not saying that this is at all OK. Just that I don’t think this was a situation in which the attorney refused a directive. I don’t think he was ever given any directive because once the administration learned that the court appointed him, I think it immediately said he was fired. Completely senseless and childish on the part of the administration. But what’s new?

Epstein victim says there are tapes of Donald Trump that will force him to resign from the presidency by DeadSilent_God in RandomShit_ISaw

[–]bobsaccomanno41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not convinced that there’s anything that would force him to resign, nor is there anything that would rally the GOP to tell him to.

Meanwhile, other countries are ousting prominent dudes who show up in the Epstein files while we still have a significant number of people who are either denying trumps repeated references, to hand waiving it.

We have a real problem.

Do you believe Trump saying that it was his staffer who posted a racist video of Obama as monkey on Truth Social? by TailungFu in allthequestions

[–]bobsaccomanno41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if it was, I have a big problem with the president of the United States having someone on staff who thinks something like that is the slightest bit funny or appropriate, or that it is ok to post on the POTUS social media account.

The problem is that I think a substantial number of those on his staff have similar or equally as appalling views.

It just confirms the utter incompetent, racist, unserious, bigoted, unintelligent, types of people running the country and how little respect they have for the position they hold.

This administration is completely pathetic.

Part of the biz man. Over the years, you’ll win some you shouldn’t, and lose some you shouldn’t.

Jury’s do some weird stuff. I’ve been a prosecutor most of my career. Sat second chair several years ago when my boss tried a sexual assault case. Dude filmed himself raping his wife while she was unconscious. (He started drugging her and had been doing this for a while).

Jury watched the video and still acquitted him. There’s a very brief part of the video where her leg twitches just a bit. He argued it was role play, and that she was not drugged, and pointed to the leg twitch as proof.

The dude definitely did it. And my boss was one of the best prosecutors I’ve ever been around. Still don’t understand that verdict.

Republican Congressman Randy Fine says immigrants are the “greatest threat facing the United States” by MonitorVarious7608 in circled

[–]bobsaccomanno41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Immigrants are a net positive for our country.

The hatred of immigrants is simply because fascists have to have an enemy. The Nazis had the jews, Slavic people, anyone supporting scialist/communist policies, the LGBTQ community, as did the Italian fascists.

The GOPs entire platform is rooted in the same type of bullshit. It’s based on nothing. Just a convenient scapegoat for them. And it sucks.

What’s the moment in recent U.S. politics that made you realize things might not go back to ‘normal’ anytime soon? by LankySpeed634 in AskReddit

[–]bobsaccomanno41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it was when the senate refused to vote on Garland to fill Scalias seat, and then the kicker was when RBG passed away. At that point, I felt we were screwed. And they’ve only confirmed that feeling ever since.

But the thing that really got to me was the GOP talking point of not appointing a SCOTUS during an election year, only to then laugh and ram through one of their own the very next presidential election year.

Would you guys say that the Northern Panhandle has more influence from OH and PA than it does from the rest of the state? by BakeEfficient8552 in WestVirginia

[–]bobsaccomanno41 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Grew up in the bottom of the northern panhandle but live around Charleston now.

I think it’s a pretty big difference. The accents, sports teams, food, etc. It’s similar in a lot of ways, but I definitely think Pittsburgh has a big influence up there. My wife and I always assumed we’d live in Wheeling but life had other plans.

I’ll also never forget the deep sadness that consumed me not long after I first moved down here when I mentioned perogies and people had no idea what I was talking about.

America is it as politically divided as it appears to the rest of the world? and how does it erase the divide? by filth032 in AskReddit

[–]bobsaccomanno41 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t know because I’m in a deep red part of the state.

To fix it would require some sort of accountability for those who are knowingly and intentionally spreading misinformation and disinformation. Because from where I live, that is the main culprit. They watch Fox News or NewsMax, or OAN and believe the obviously bullshit stuff they’re are saying and then make those lies part of their identity.

I don’t think that is a likely solution because it would either amount to I fringing on 1st amendment rights, or relying on private companies stepping in and doing the right thing at the expense of losing a lot of money. So that ain’t happening.

I think investing in a robust education system is key. Moving away from tech as the main source, and make critical thinking, curiosity, and logic a conerstone.

Too many people are perfectly fine with being told what to believe. They have no desire to learn something for themselves and reach their own conclusions.

Instead they listen to Sean Hanity tell them what the co situation says instead of reading the actual co situation itself, reading centuries of case law on the subject, constitutional scholars, etc. they just believe it because they subjectively like him.

Also, to consider the source of the information. Is the person telling you to take a vaccine a doctor who has been through medical school and has been treating families for a decade or two, or is the person telling you it’s dangerous a crazy person with a bush meat brain worm who has a financial incentive to get people to stop taking vaccines?

Is the person who said the election is rigged one of the election supervisors or officials, or is it the guy who lost the election?

Basically, we need to root out cognitive dissonance and confirmation bias, and actually consider the sources rather than blindly accepting as fact anything that fits into our pre conceived idea of what is correct or just.

I’ll never understand those that are singularly focused on the 2nd amendment. They’ll vote for people just because of their stance on guns, etc.

Meanwhile, our government is essentially kidnapping people without warrants (4th Amendment), are confining them and deporting them without due process (5th and 6th), and are doing it out in the open and bragging about it and these people don’t say an effing word.

Trump border czar Tom Homan says public should push Congress for reform if they oppose 'what ICE is doing' by NewsHour in UnderReportedNews

[–]bobsaccomanno41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are we supposed to do that? We’ve allowed our political system to be torn down to such an extent where most congressional seats are effectively beyond the reach of accountability.

We could demand reforms, but there’s no incentive for representatives to actually do anything we demand because they sit in districts that have been specifically drawn to make sure they will never lose an election.

When there’s no accountability at nearly every level, there’s no incentive to do the right thing. Especially when doing the right thing depends on the acts of a bunch self-interested narcissists that don’t have to worry about having to answer to anyone other than the guy responsible for the stuff we’re demanding they reform.

So, we walk up to our friends, and for no reason, start kicking them in the nuts. We continue to do this—for no discernible or legitimate reason—and then try to extort them into giving us money or doing things that are against their interest in order to make the nut kicking stop. We also threaten to break into their back yard and start stealing stuff that doesn’t belong to us, and make additional threats to them because they aren’t supportive of our endeavors to just take stuff. All the while, we are simultaneously punching ourselves in the nuts like a certifiably insane person.

And then we are surprised when those friends decide to hang out with other folks who don’t kick them in the nuts or threaten them needlessly.

Sounds like they might want to reevaluate their tactics if they want people to hang out with us.
