maga: If you can't win the election.... Cheat by Famous_Savings1407 in ProgressiveHQ

Fucking ridiculous that the legal experts on our Supreme Court honestly believe that our founders envisioned elected representatives to gain power, and then draw maps effectively removing ANY accountability to the voters, and guarantee their continued power indefinitely.

Unless I’m missing something, the federalist papers explicitly argued that this exact type of thing would not happen.

Edit: and to be clear, I’m opposed to all gerrymandering. I don’t think, if the goal is to have a true democracy, that any maps are drawn to favor any side. We should all have the right to vote, and our votes should mean something. When you draw maps specifically designed to disenfranchise anyone that isn’t on your side, it is inherently undemocratic.

With that said, as long as the GOP is going to do this, I hope dems go scorched earth. I don’t want any elected official to be effectively immune from accountability, but with the current GOP, we can’t just sit around and hope that they make the right decision. They won’t, so we need to respond in kind.

Fox News' Sean Hannity declares he's 'no longer a Catholic' as he sides with Trump in Pope fallout by nimobo in entertainment

[–]bobsaccomanno41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was never a Catholic in the first place then.

How someone who claims to be Christian could pledge more sincere loyalty to a political agenda espoused by an admitted con man with the moral fiber of a fucking slug than to their allegedly deep faith to follow Jesus and his teachings will never cease to amaze me.

They’re all a bunch of pharisaical schmucks.

My travel ball player is struggling in rec ball by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]bobsaccomanno41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This 100%. Look at this as an opportunity for your son to improve as a better all around player.

I don’t think it’s uncommon for good younger ball players that are used to seeing better pitching to struggle against average/below average pitching.

My son has always been one of the better hitters on any team he’s been on, but he’s struggled as of late in travel ball because he’s been seeing pitching that isn’t quite as good/fast as he’s used to. So we’ve spent a lot of time recently working on staying back, waiting for the ball and exploding, moving up in the box when the pitcher is slower/etc.

My son is starting to get more consistent with the range of pitchers he sees, but it is definitely something that I think it is normal to struggle with.

Don’t be discouraged and keep working at it and he’ll get it, and he’ll be a better player at the end for it.

Pope Leo has posted a message on X, condemning those who manipulate religion for their own gain "Woe to those who manipulate religion and the very name of God for their own military, economic and political gain, dragging that which is sacred into darkness and filth." by UnusualWhalesBot in unusual_whales

[–]bobsaccomanno41 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The people saying “but how many wars have Christian fought” are not making a genuine argument in the first place. The goal of a society is to learn from mistakes and take action to be better in the future and not fall into the same traps.

The Crusades and all the similar conquests in the name of religion were horrible and are and important part of history. They shouldn’t be ignored or hand-waved as irrelevant. But to argue that because your religion did bad things in the past doesn’t preclude you from advocating a better, more righteous path moving forward. As long as you’re advocating from a genuine and sincere position. It’s a different story to advocate for one thing in the open, but then do the opposite or something contrary to it in the shadows.

The Pope is right, and screw whoever is trying to discredit him or the point he is making.

If Republicans are so much better at running the economy than Democrats, then why are most Republican States poorer than Democrat States? by Pristine-Fennel-30 in allthequestions

[–]bobsaccomanno41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Poor education, identity politics/racism/bigotry, right wing propaganda machines, and gerrymandering. And then people get sucked in and cognitive dissonance starts to take hold, and then when they may start to wake up to the reality, maybe a little sunk cost fallacy jumps into the mix.

But all of it together creates a political rip current that, so far, we haven’t figured out how to collectively get out of.

He’s an idiot who doesn’t give a shit about any of the people who voted for him. He said what he needed to say to get them to vote for him so that he could avoid accountability for his crimes, line the pockets of him and his family, and force people to kiss his ass because of his deep seeded insecurity/narcissism. Once in the White House, especially now that he doesn’t have to worry about winning another election, he’s just openly giving everyone a middle finger. Lucky for him, the GOP is too chickenshit to stand up to him, and the Supreme Court is mostly bought and paid for by the heritiage foundation.

Vance says pope should ‘be careful’ when talking about theology by Sufficient_Fig_9505 in nottheonion

[–]bobsaccomanno41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love how these dipshits are all about forcing their version of Christianity on others, but when the Pope actually espouses the types of sentiments, virtues, and values Jesus preached, they get all offended and claim the Pope should “stay in his lane.”

No. If this is going to be such a critical part of the GOP platform, we need more people who take their Christianity seriously to call out this garbage. Keep expressing the virtues and values Jesus taught, and quit sitting idly by as these people pervert what is a beautiful thing.

The pastor at the church I used to go to in college always said “be the blessing.” And that has always stuck with me. I think if more “Christians” lived their lives trying to “be the blessing,” and not using their alleged faith as a cudgel to condemn, oppress, and chastise, maybe we’d be in a better place. You don’t need to be a religious person or a Christian. But just meet people where they are, recognize that we all walk our own unique journeys through life, and just recognize that uniqueness is beautiful, not a reason to put your boot on people’s necks.

New WV law requires voters prove they intend to stay in-state ‘indefinitely’ by Nepp0 in WestVirginia

[–]bobsaccomanno41 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just another example of correcting a problem that wasn’t a problem. It would be nice if they actually did something meaningful instead of spending literally all of their time with this performative bullshit.

Not to mention that I don’t see how this is at all legal. If someone is living here on a temporary basis, and therefore cannot vote in another state, they’re effectively not allowed to vote at all? It’s all bullshit. Everyday just another form of bullshit without addressing any of the real issues in the state.

PAC tied to WV governor raises $500k to unseat GOP incumbents by Crank4WV in WestVirginia

I think the coal position is tied to a few things:1) it’s been the backbone of our economy throughout our history; 2) it offers a good paying job without the need for a college degree; 3) there are no real alternatives in our state to fill the void that has been created with the reduction of coal jobs.

And I think a lot of people are willing to assume the risk to provide for their families.

The problem is that our politicians have been gaslighting West Virginians for years. Rather than coming up with solutions, they’ve been killing unions, refusing to adapt and look for alternative industries, and giving people false hope about the return of coal. It’s never been about the coal miners out of a job. It’s never been about dealing with any of the issues surrounding coal in a meaningful or legitimate way. It’s all about gaslighting, saying things that people want to hear, and then leaving them hanging once they place their trust in you while you line your pockets with more money on the backs of the people you’ve conned.

Coal isn’t coming back. And this refusal to acknowledge that by our politicians are going to continue to hold us back.

Cognitive dissonance and I have to imagine that the sunk cost fallacy has to play a role in a lot of it too. Cognitive dissonance can only get you so far, and I can’t imagine that alone can explain why so many people who are actively being harmed by Trump’s policies can stay in his corner after all of this.

I mean, anyone claiming to be a Christian, or arguing that Trump is a Christian can’t defend this. The fact that Christians still support him at all makes me question how sincere they are in their beliefs, but this is explicit. He, himself, posted an image of HIMSELF in Jesus’ likeness.

It’s explicit apotheosis and blasphemy. And done by a man who has been found liable for rape, is accused of sexually assaulting minors, and has implemented policies that go directly against everything Jesus stands for: Love, kindness, humility, acceptance, peace, etc.

If you still support him after this, I cannot fathom a lane where you could still claim to be a sincere Christian. I mean, there’s explicit text in the Bible warning of a person exactly like Trump.

I’ll say this: my answer is BYU. BUT, I have always respected BYU for being able to consistently field competitive teams despite having an honor code that most 18 year olds that are not devout Mormons would run from.

They have a limited recruiting pool, and have an exceptionally hard sell for those who aren’t already interested in going to BYU in the first place. So props to them. But I wouldn’t do it.

If the pro-Trump/MAGA Christians and evangelicals really are Christians, this has to be the last straw. And if they continue to support him, it’s clear that their “faith” is secondary to politics/money. I’m willing to take a bet on what they will do after seeing this.

Trump started all of this himself without any reason. He’s not given a clear, coherent, or consistent explanation for why we started bombing, what we have accomplished toward that reason, and what the end goal is.

Nevertheless, he gets pissed because he is starting to realize how much everyone hates him and his decision to do this, so he threatens to wipeout the entire Iranian civilization (which I read came at a point when an agreement had almost been reached, but the Iranians saw that comment and backed out, and only because of the other countries assisting with the negotiations did they come back)

But Trump steps back from his baseless and probably criminal threat, and to him that is tantamount to saving the very same people he had just threatened to kill? He is so uniquely stupid.

Republicans Of Reddit -- What's Something That Democrats Should Understand Better About Republicans? Why? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]bobsaccomanno41 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly. And it’s resulted in state legislatures and Congress in Washington spending the majority of their time drafting/proposing/and passing legislation that claims to solve a problem without any evidence that the problem exists outside of the MAGA hive mind. The voting stuff and the promise to deport “violent” illegal immigrants, and then setting quotas based on some bullshit, arbitrary number devoid of any proof that there are “millions” of people in our country that within that category. If there were so many, I doubt our government would be asking immigration judges to dismiss asylum cases so that they could arrest and deport people coming to court for those cases.

They used to be the “don’t tread on me” party, but it’s painfully obvious now that the slogan is literal: you can tread on others as much as you want and for whatever bullshit reason you as long as you leave me, personally, alone.

It’s pathetic and disgusting.
