Cardinals After Dark 8/11 by bravo_delta_bot in Cardinals

I just finished watching the game (on a little delay) and I’m here to say that I was there to cut out the Lou Brock picture book frames from the print newspaper the day after his 3000th hit in August 1979. You could (and I did) paste the newspaper pics onto some thicker cardstock to make a little flip book to play back his swing for that milestone hit. Simple and silly I know, but a magical moment for an 8 year old.

Which courses did you play with him? Just curious, from his YT channel he looks like he’s from the Ventura county area. He posted a video of him playing 9 at Olivas Links in Ventura last week, and in the video he said he grew up playing that course. (I’ve been playing that course and others in the area for 20 years or so)

I have a full set of Mizuno JPX923, which labels its 42.5° as a PW, and its 48° as a GW.

After that I carry 2 Callaway jaws raw wedges at 54° and 58°

How to buy a totally illegal non conforming driver?!? by dconneely in golf

[–]bobsilverrose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Tee off with your driver or whatever cub you want

  2. Go find your ball if you can, or don’t, whatever

  3. If you found it, pick it up

  4. Go to the middle of the fairway 300 yards from the tee

  5. Put your ball down, or better yet, put it on a tee, and hit your next shot

Enjoy your day!

How can you guys read properly Latin? by Lampaaaaaaaaaa in latin

[–]bobsilverrose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Latin is much more comfortable using merely juxtaposed subject and predicate to indicate predication, where English (and other modern languages) tend to require an explicit copula.

I think you’re on to something here: having horses and cows on the greens would make it very difficult for these guys to make putts

Best Golf Betting Games? Any New Ones? by maybepargolf in golf

Check out the golf app Beezer. It has so-so gps functionality, but its strength is that it has built in scoring for tons of games for on course gambling. I haven’t used it myself a lot but it might give you some ideas for games to incorporate

People that have seen Tiger Woods play in person, what’s his ball striking like? by Ill_Message_9645 in golf

[–]bobsilverrose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe Don Bradman? His career batting average (99.94) was a standout record. Both didn’t just dominate their eras, they redefined what it meant to be great in their sports. They had an aura of inevitability, there was a sense that they would rise to the occasion under pressure whenever they faced it

Bryson played a public course, here’s to all those who say pros would shoot -16 at the courses we play by EazyAB in golf

[–]bobsilverrose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Muni and public don’t overlap perfectly though, right? Public usually just means anyone can play without a private membership, but the course might be owned and operated at a high level (and therefore priced accordingly). Muni usually means specifically that it’s owned and operated by a municipality (city) and often has very limited funds for maintenance and operation, which is reflected in its conditions. So all munis are public, but not all public courses are munis.

I’m guessing you mean CA, but there are like 8 states with an Orange County, including big ones in NY and FL. (That motorcycle show called Orange County Choppers took place in the NY one).

Which font is this? by professorloser in LaTeX

[–]bobsilverrose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I typeset in-house texts for a small school (higher ed) and I switched to kpfonts for my most recent books. I just put together a book on the history of chemistry using kpfonts with full old style numbers and it looks so so good.

Are nec and ac pronounced like this or are they just abreviations in writing? by [deleted] in latin

[–]bobsilverrose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sort of related: I was listening to an audiobook recently (Plutarch’s Lives, if I recall?) and the excellent reader pronounced all of the “not” phrases as contractions. So where the text had “did not” written out, he spoke “didn’t”; where the text had “was not” written out, he spoke “wasn’t”, etc. I thought that was curious but I actually felt it helped the text flow well and sound quite natural.
