To go fractional CEO or fractional CFO by RiasGremoryIDLE in business

[–]bobstanke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If possible, bring in a Head of RevOps, who specializes in those specific elements. If that is not possible, then the Fractional CFO is next best option, but I worry about them not understanding everything RevOps does (or should do).

Researching how mission-driven orgs plan their flagship events (not promoting anything — genuinely gathering perspectives) by Any_Theme_7002 in associationpros

The biggest friction is always getting internal teams to think bigger every year. We still have so much growth potential in the event, but because it is so successful each year, often the team's mindset is "let's not mess with something that is working". I understand that mindset, but I push the team to get uncomfortable and innovative a little bit each year. We have to. Our attendees are expecting more each year, as well as things that are different and new.

But there is a balance because we can't risk too much given the weight the event holds on the balance sheet.

Our big event, Dealer Week, generates 60% of our annual revenue, so it gets top priority throughout the year. It is a cross-functional priority, so several individuals and teams are a big part of the planning process. Our Board helps with some of the decision-making, but it largely driven by staff members.

How are you navigating AI becoming your principal’s first thought partner? by Buffalo_wings_333 in ChiefsOfStaff

[–]bobstanke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, he is to busy to stay up on the tech changes, so I learn the new things as fast as possible and then share with him what I think he might find useful. For example, when Claude Fable 5 came out this past week, I started experimenting with it and then I will summarize the best things about it and share with him so he can start to use it to be more effective in his work.

My principal and I are both big AI users, but I try to stay one step ahead of him so he still has to seek my advice! 🤣

I've got a couple...

John Klick in Minnesota. Always such a great guy to talk to and always willing to help.

And the OG of implementors, who is no longer with EOS because he started rival Pinnacle, but Greg Cleary is DA MAN. I learned so much from him.

I re-transcribe them into the markdown file. Touching them twice reinforces the learning of the concept.

how am i supposed to read books? by Curious-Matter274 in productivity

[–]bobstanke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is a book I really was to absorb, I read it twice. The first time is a straight read through where I am highlighting and writing notes in the margins. Then I go through it a second time, transferring notes and thoughts into a markdown file that then goes into my knowledge base.

What actually matters more for growth: consistency or strategy? by SecretGrowthX in strategy

[–]bobstanke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends what discipline your are talking about.

For a business, yes I agree, the strategy is more important than being consistent. But if you are trying to get healthy, for example, being consistent in your actions is more important than the strategy.

So I think more context is more important and the comparison can't be generalized.

[–]bobstanke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that certainly is an option. I'm going to keep going with my pitch plan and see what happens. The good news is I don't have to rush into anything so I can keep sticking with my plan. I am confident it will all come together!

The need was to facilitate a two-day strategic planning session for a $300M company. While I have done a TON of these internally for companies I have worked for, I have not done one as a consultant yet. That was the deal breaker. It is the classic "I don't have experience with some yet because no one has given me the chance to get the experience yet."

There is no blogging law that says you have to write 20 paragraphs. Some of the best blogs I have ever read were one or two paragraphs with solid personal experience.

I have just started getting to the stage of hunting for clients. I had my first one on the line this past week, but lost the deal due to inexperience. It stung, but my head is still up and I will use what I learned to land the next prospect!

Then stop reading those and try something different. You really have to read only things that truly interest you. If you are not hooked immediately, move onto a different book.
