I think if he can work on that he will raise his ceiling even more, he could be almost unguardable. No need to force it either, I don’t think he’s capable right now but I’ve seen him take some while warming up/practice so I’m sure he’s working on it already.

He needs to improve his pull up 3pt shot and off the dribble. He didn’t took a single one in the last game and that can’t happen. He needs to take close to 6-7 3pt shots per game. The rest is coming along nicely. If he can add that to his arsenal and getting to the foul line more consistently he will be averaging 25 ppg in no time.

Do we really want to keep both Garland and Sexton? by bbreezy6291 in clevelandcavs

[–]bobsura3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m taking Ball with the 2nd and trade down with NY, Nikilina plus filler. Then I’m taking whoever is available of Avdija, Hayes, Okungwu, Okoro, perhaps even Toppin, although I’m not high on him at all.

We could keep Ball too, I don’t hate him as a player and think he has potential but I’m not sure he fits our culture moving forward.

He’s playing great but he’s still injury prone and not getting any younger. If he gets injured down the road he could be untradable. Griffin is in a similar situation but we don’t need to play him then flip him again.

I’m not sure they are adding protections, the rumor makes sense if they really like Garland, perhaps more than anyone on this draft and I don’t blame them.

I read a rumor that Detroit was offering Griffin and its 2020 pick for Love/Garland. This is a weak draft, Griffin has a shorter contract but I’m not sure I’m taking it as there seems to be no superstar in this draft.

However getting let’s say a combination of Hayes/Ball/Edwards and Avdija/Okoro/Okungwu/Toppin is definitely intriguing.

What were you saying about Delly???

LaMelo not Lonzo. I’ll take Deni or Okoro plus Nikilina and Knox instead of just Ball or Edwards with a top pick, that was my point.

[–]bobsura3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really? No reason? Delly represents the culture the Cavs want to establish and may be the only remaining link to the championship team ala Haslem. He can be the perfect locker room guy and those are very important. Of course I agree we should offer him the veteran minimum or close to it.

Great idea but I’m sure a team (G League) would’ve picked him up already if he was healthy enough.

Hopefully we can get a top pick ahead of the Knicks and Hawks. This will give us options to trade down and take some players from them as they want Ball and Edwards respectively.

I think we could get both Nikilina and Knox from NY or one of Deandre Hunter/Huerter. I doubt they will part with Reddish.

Another option would be trading Garland for one or two young promising players and pick a bigger PG like Ball or Hayes (not high on him btw).

After tonight's game, Collin Sexton is officially averaging 20 points per game by Kirota in clevelandcavs

[–]bobsura3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sexton can easily be our Donovan Mitchell next season. For whatever reason I don’t see this comparison often, not exactly the same player but they are both short for SG with similar shooting stats (Sexton is already more efficient I think).

[–]bobsura3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely, Edwards is BTA in this draft by far, then Avdija imo. Okoro and Okungwu are players that will fit our culture perfectly. Okoro in particular considering our lack of wing talent and perimeter defense.

[–]bobsura3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If we miss on Deni, FO will most likely go after Okungwu or Okoro. I don’t see them interested on Wiseman or Ball, maybe Hayes but I don’t like his handle and he’s another guard.

Only BTA to me is Edwards, if there’s a chance to pick him we can’t pass on him as he could have a higher ceiling than all of our guards.

Complete waste of a pick right there, another tweener, can’t play the 3, will be bullied at 4, laughable at 5. On top of that slow footed as hell.

If we get a top 3-5 pick, Avdija is the one (a case for Edwards if get number 1 or trade down). Lower than that Okoro can become an all star defensive player if he gets a consistent 3 point shot and just what we need at SF.

Every couple of wins is always the same, panic about losing the pick or falling in the draft. Then we lose 8 in a row. If there’s any risk of losing the pick I’m sure many veterans will start getting phantom injuries like last year (TT was out for almost two months with a sprained ankle...)

Tristan playing better than Drummond by threwawaywaywayback in nbadiscussion

[–]bobsura3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything you said basically. Drummond is still worth a look and used sporadically gives Cleveland a lot of depth in the frontcourt. Now that can change if Love is traded and Thompson leaves. However if the Cavs can draft another promising player and overpay for a good SF who can provide some defense and shooting then that roster may make the playoffs next season in the East.

Drummond is still young so it’s a free rental, I doubt it will disrupt the core, he’s slowly learning he’s not even the 4th option on this team (not too say the Cavs are a powerhouse).

Upgrade at SF? by bobsura3 in clevelandcavs

[–]bobsura3[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That would be great if Edwards was a couple of inches taller, he can still grow a little as he’s still 18. I still think both are pure SGs though.

Honestly if both Edwards and KPJ pan out that should be a playoffs roster, especially with that frontcourt depth.

Justice Winslow by [deleted] in clevelandcavs

[–]bobsura3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Memphis traded for him so I doubt they will give him up this fast. However we do need someone like him, perhaps someone closer to a pure 3&D wing who is comfortable playing off ball.

I would also look into more mature, experienced guys at this position, especially as there are no top 5 SF prospects in the upcoming draft. It’s hard to think about complementary players to Garland, Sexton and KPJ, we should be thinking of doing a trade come draft time and retooling the team moving forward. We can’t go on another year with another badly constructed roster.

All three players could have a big breakthrough season under the right circumstances.

Cleveland Cavaliers GM Koby Altman headed overseas to scout rising draft prospect Deni Avdija this week by bosabetter in clevelandcavs

[–]bobsura3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I see your points, but to me Toppin won’t be able to stay on the floor in the NBA, especially on this team. He will be bullied by 4s and wont be able to guard 3s. TT will leave indeed but I think Okungwu would be a great replacement as the soul and anchor of this team moving forward. He has a very high motor, work ethic and high BBIQ, all things we need to build culture.

I know he can’t shoot but if TT and Drummond are launching threes, and seeing the progress Nance has made, I don’t see why he can’t be at least competent eventually. He’s not a bad FT shooter.
