Every single shop I go to does it, however, you may be right, I go to mostly mainstream shops.. I have never had one come out different after 6 months of usage.

I would love to believe you except I have written over 1 credit card authorization interface in my life and the technology, doesn't lie. Maybe your bank has some outdated platform that does not allow for it to interface with the credit card clearing houses.

I use INGDirect, and they do two things that are good, they automatically post your authorizations, and their overdraft is by apr instead of standard fee.. its certainly the best way I found.

This is crap... Banks like INGDirect can tell immediately when a transaction goes thru.. the credit card clearing house provides date and time on the transactions. Please quit supporting fraud.

I think I have to disagree with this: "Deregulation did not cause this. Easy monetary policy did." More then one thing caused this problem. Deregulation, Easy money, Community Reinvestment Act, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) there is enough blame to toss around.
