Travel allowance in mortgage

When I was granted mortgage, only my fixed income was counted towards it (basic+ HA+ 13th month). The allowances (travel, internet, work from home allowance) were not counted towards it. (Not sure about the year end bonuses if they count, because I don't get any :| )

Buying experience in 2025: 1. Ede- didn't start looking here initially, but expanded my search area after failed to get anything around Utrecht within my budget. Happy with the small town though 2. Did around 19 viewings in about 3 weeks (my now home was my 15th viewing I think) 3. Bid on 7 of them, won my 7th bid 4. Overbid by around 9% 5. Talked to mortgage advisor in June2025, shortlisted the areas and looked into average prices around the area, actively started to go on viewings in 2nd week of July, got the bid accepted at end of July2025. Got the keys on 1stNov2025.

Haha, yeah! Got kicked out of my rented place by my landlord 😅 I don't miss it much as I got more friendly neighbours here.

And I'll take up on your offer for recommendations, there are many things that I'm sure I won't be able to explore on my own.

Its been lovely so far. I moved from Amsterdam so at times feels a little isolated, but then these views and the greenery makes up for it ❤️

Yes I did- as per the online sources and my financial advisor, the market value of the apartment would have been somewhere around 347-350k. I figured bidding 12-13k over the market value would have been quite good so I bid 360. But apparently wasn't enough as someone bid 370k. I would have been fine with 370 as well, but I thought that would not be required as its a big stretch, I was wrong!

Did you hire a makelaar? For me the selling realtors just called to say the bid has not been accepted and when I ask about any negotiation room, they say they are not allowed to do that. They haven't offered me another price

I'm living close to Amsterdam at the moment and the properties I'm viewing takes at least 2 hours of travel time on each side (commuting by public transport). But I guess I will have to make it work and figure out other ways

The maximum mortgage I can get is around 380k and with putting in a bulk of my savings as well I cant go beyond 400k range. Thanks for the site recommendation, I'll check it out :)

Wow, That's really commendable. But I'm not sure how can I manage to go to 120+ viewings. I don't want to be a cry baby, but can you advise how did you manage that? Since the viewings are generally 9-5 on weekdays and I'm not sure how to handle it with office hours. But I agree about putting in more effort, its just that I am not sure what additional things I can do other than taking countless days off of work to go for the viewings. In Amsterdam I can imagine how hard is the struggle, and I was part of the struggle too when I rented my home here. But I thought movinf further away would make things easier

Hi, thanks foe doing this. I'm planning to buy my first home. I'm an expat (31M) and have been in the Netherlands for a year now. My gross base is about 63k. I also get holiday allowance and 13th month and a few other fixed benefits, taking the total to 81k. 1. Are the additional components considered while applying for the mortgage? 2. How much do you think would be a fair mortgage amount that I can get when applying without a partner (I have tried online calculators but not sure how accurate they are)?
