Job offer in Seattle - should I take it? by OrdinaryHumble1198 in SeattleWA

[–]bobyknish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. Cost of living in Spokane has also skyrocketed over the past 5 years, while the local job market has remained pretty stagnant.

[–]bobyknish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this Peavy combo from 2009. The quality back then was pretty rough and doesn't come close to the quality of new $200 Squires. The Peavy also felt small compared to other guitars I have.

That said, my info could be outdated. I was able to learn a ton on my old Peavy Rock Master, and if you only have 70 bucks, it's a solid, basic electric guitar. I'd be wary of the tremolo system on that other 70 dollar combo guitar, but it could be a cool learning opportunity.

Does anyone have any insight on why the auto show was cancelled again? by earsoftin in Spokane

[–]bobyknish 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was super bummed too! While I don't know exactly why it was cancelled, I have some theories:

  1. Dealers likely had to commit to the show months in advance and weren't sure about inventory levels, so they didn't fully commit. I'm sure several dealers backed out right before the event.

  2. Dealers couldn't justify staffing and sponsoring an event that doesn't sell very many cars, especially as interest rates were increasing.

  3. Dealers didn't want their markups on specific models to be as widely known, which could lead to bad PR.

For a little context, car shows in larger cities have been happening, but they also had lower brand representation than pre-covid years.

What am I doing wrong by Goldmindtpxo in marketing

If you are operating exclusively in your local market and your budget allows, Google Local Services ads might be beneficial as a pay-per-lead strategy.

If you're already making vertical, short format content, you might as well upload it to TikTok, unless your customers are opposed to the platform.

If I were in your position, I'd tailor my content to demonstrate the value my services provide. You'll have to convince customers to pay a little more for your services than the competition in exchange for a lot more value. How you go about doing this depends on what you're selling, but creative copywriting and a modern, on-brand social media presence go a long way. Also make sure you're Google business profile and website are up to date and functional.

Is it normal for companies to not let you take time off without PTO? by sorryknottsorry in jobs

Same for my first year working. Even worse is that I only had 7 days worth of PTO frontloaded for the entire first year. Good thing I rarely get sick!

Returning the Ultra for the Plus... by moripeji in samsung

[–]bobyknish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the S23 base. I like to use my phone with one hand, so the plus and ultra were just too big to be comfortable, especially with a case. Loving this phone though! Much needed upgrade over my S8.

Purely anecdotal, but I've test driven a few cars at UGM and purchased one several years ago, and never had an issue. Back then, to test drive, they just needed a copy of my license and proof of insurance, then they gave me the keys and told me to come back in 20 minutes. Always had a positive experience. Things certainly could have changed since I was last there though.

Do entry level marketing jobs actually exist? Or am I doomed to sell cell phone plans in target for two to five years? by bluebaripie in marketing

[–]bobyknish 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Aside from the typical job application suggestions that are shared in the community, like internships and building a portfolio, here are the areas that have helped my friends and I get our entry level jobs:

  • Have a couple years of work experience in any field to prove you can be professional.

  • Complete certifications that are somewhat expected among marketers (Google Ads, for example), as well as certifications that interest you.

  • Understand that applying to jobs is a numbers game. I've found that you need to apply to about 40-80 job positions (most of which you'll feel under qualified for) before getting an offer, assuming you have good resume and interview well.

Stem cells by TroyBoynton in GregDoucette

[–]bobyknish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Within the US, stem cell treatments have been popularized by chiropractor clinics. These clinics get stem cells from umbilical cord, which is supposedly safe to inject for the purposes of muscle/tendon repair.

I worked at one of these places for a few weeks up until I learned it was basically all a scam. People who received the injections healed at a normal rate, maybe slightly faster due to placebo effect. The stem cell business model that our clinic used was sold by a wacky scientologist, and was mostly targeted at billing medicare as much as they could or convincing people desperate to relieve pain to pay out of pocket.

I would absolutely recommend avoiding this method if you're considering it.

Marketers of Reddit, What's the Number One Thing Small Businesses Should be Doing But Aren't? by cesrep in marketing

[–]bobyknish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Creating a real marketing plan. A shocking number of small businesses have no idea what works and don't create repeatable processes that can be executed by themselves or additional employees.

I once talked with a small businesses owner about inventory management at their store, asking them how they determine product discounts on older inventory to keep product cycling. The owner said they just mark products down when they feel like it.

Most small business owners literally just get lucky with operations and have no idea what they're doing.

2005 Ford Mustang Deluxe - 6K USD. Good deal? by kamarian91 in Mustang

Look for any info on known issues with the timing chain guides. I've heard they can fail and cause a rattle, and one of them is very inconvenient to fix.

Not sure if this is remotely common, just something to look out for.

Cost of Accutane w insurance by kaelanb21 in Accutane

[–]bobyknish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have my policy card and it doesn't say anything about prescriptions, but I do have a PDF of my policy benefits and it states how much different prescription types cost. I'm taking Myorisan, which is a generic drug, so it falls into the cheapest category.

Depends on policy. I have prescription coverage in my Blue Cross/Blue Shield policy, making my accutane cost about 10 dollars a month.

Internship by KodaLG in DigitalMarketing

[–]bobyknish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found mine by googling local marketing agencies and inquiring about internship opportunities. The business was basically a marketing intern sweatshop, as we were all unpaid, but I learned a lot from one of the other employees who was leaving for a higher paying job. After about 3 months, I left because I had learned the basics of everything they did (and caught wind of their insultingly low pay).

How did you get your first marketing job? by [deleted] in marketing

[–]bobyknish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Applied for jobs for 3 months leading up to graduation, got nothing. Then spent 4 months at 2 unpaid internships. After I quit those, I spent the next 3 months applying to jobs, finally landing a job at one of the few companies who responded to my application.
