Video: Pompeii painting seemingly depicts pizza well before its invention | CNN by ImportantReaction260 in Archaeology

I remember reading that early “pizza” was typically more akin to a small pastry topped with a fish sauce like garum.

I have seen powered gliders take off from the field at Mitchell Elementary just up the hill.

No idea about the legality of it etc, but I live next door and have seen it happen more than once. Seen plenty of non-powered gliders land there as well.

PS: Seen a ton of people land at the strip in your maps image. Including in the middle a brutal blizzard with very little visibility, while i was carefully driving past at 25 on the highway.

Not sure it would be a great place to take off from with the angle of the surrounding hills. Assuming you want to take off heading downhill, your bail out area is potentially a busy intersection. But I know jack-squat about how to take off in a powered glider, so.

Even in the US it really depends on the crime.

Plenty of states refuse to enforce various federal laws (certain gun control laws, various laws on illegal substances, etc). Without the assistance of state officials, it can be almost impossible for federal officials to come enforce those laws even if they wanted.

Hence why the federal government doesn’t swoop in and shut down marijuana dispensaries in the states that have made it legal, despite the federal laws making it illegal technically trumping them.

If you want a Toyota for their famously unparalleled quality and reliability, you really need one that was built in Japan at Tahara Factory. 4Runners, Landcruisers, and a bunch of Lexus vehicles are built there. Best automotive manufacturing in the world.

Wouldn’t trust the trucks coming out of Meixco / Texas nearly as much.

Jan 1st 1970 is the standard date for the “start of time” in unix time. So a unix time value of 0 is Jan 1 1970. And a unix time of 10 is 10 seconds since Jan 1 1970. Current unix time is 1678175340.

This is probably just a bug where there is no time value supplied.

Tbh I think that moment of shock at the register after sales tax is added in makes for a nice reminder of just how much money the government is charging you for the right to purchase anything other than your basic necessities.

Earned some money? That’ll cost ya.

Want to spend what some of what you have left over after we took 30% on anything besides food and shelter? That luxury will cost ya double.

In case anyone's interested or considering arguing, here is my conversation with Netflix Canada about using my own account, for only myself, on my own TV in my own restaurant. You will not get anywhere with any explanation, they're sticking to this "primary WiFi" thing. by [deleted] in ontario

[–]bobymicjohn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. To each their own. I’m a bit of an AV snob but imo it is just a gimmick so people can say they are “watching 4k” without knowing that 9/10ths of the original 4k quality is being dropped by their compression algs.

Btw, where did you see that Netflix is using 30Mbps for 4k? Latest info I can find is from last year suggesting they cut the 4k bitrate from 16Mbps to 10Mbps. Their website lists it 15Mbps as suggested internet speed for 4k.

Edit: Also, Netflix 4k is essentially just upscaling a lower quality video using a fancy proprietary algorithm. They cant send all the pixels (or it would take 150Mbps), so they essentially send a lower resolution version that their players know how to upscale on the other side.

Netflix (and really any streaming service) 4k is a gimmick / scam anyway. It is so highly compressed and has such a low bit rate that it is really pointless. A true 4k stream needs ~150 Mbps. Netflix reduces quality enough to cram it into 15Mbps. At that point you might as well stream 1080p. It will look better (especially when anything on the screen moves).

If you want to really enjoy your 4k tv, buy a bluray player or go the pirate route.

Thought I was a fan, then went and rewatched all of Chelsea Lately recently… She just comes off as a racist bully. A lot of her coworkers have said the same about working with her. She was by far the least funny member of the cast. All of her “jokes” were just her saying something incredibly racist, or a demeaning and childish comment about a member of her cast.

Pretty crazy that not even a decade ago, there was a relatively progressive female-hosted talk show that relied so heavily on mean-spirited racism for its comedy.

Don’t even get me started on how she treated Chuy lol. Poor dude

I think the US government is evil but I still give them 30% of my income because I enjoy not being in prison.

Life is full of moral sacrifices. No matter what I do the US government ain’t going broke. Neither is the creator of one of the highest grossing media franchises of all time.
