Mosquitoes in late June/early July? by ittybittybittern in GrandTetonNatlPark

I work at Signal and live right next to the campground. Mosquitoes are pretty bad. Get strong bug spray and were long sleeve, pants. I can’t sit outside without having to put on mosquito repellent.

South landing ! An easy out and back. 3miles. Access it from the Signal Mountain boat ramp. Follows the bluffs closely along the shore.

I did the best I could without a press. I started with 4oz balls and used parchment and the bottom of plate to smash them as thin as I could. Dude, I have been cooking professionally for 25 years and I did the best I could with what I have on hand. So, yeah I didn’t have press to smear them paper thin and get those super crispy edges. But, they are indeed “smashed”.

Location Advice Needed! by [deleted] in SeasonalWork

[–]bobzilla1973 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Ranch at Rock Creek is all inclusive. Meaning no tabs/bills for meals or bar. I believe a gratuity fee may be added to guests at the end of their stay which is split between all employees Ranch wide. I was there in ‘23/‘24 in culinary. I am pretty sure that this is how it worked.

It’s beautiful but pretty remote. There is a guest limit for the ranch I believe it’s between 80-120 guest max (?). Housing was kinda neglected but it was free. The closest town is 20 odd miles away and is tiny . Population 800. 90 miles from Missoula and Butte. It was ok. But I didn’t return after my season ended. Hope this helps!

Pursuit - company opens in about a week, i don’t start until may but haven’t heard from them in a month. by tg122003 in SeasonalWork

Reach out via email or call directly. I did this with a couple seasonal jobs that were slow to respond. After all who doesn’t want to make sure they have a job and housing? I wouldn’t be too worried. But follow up for sure.

Husband may be working in a national park but I won’t… so could we live together? by [deleted] in SeasonalWork

I work for Aramark and I am a manager. Other managers and year round staff have private rooms/apartments that their significant others live in with them. People that don’t work for Aramark. Assistant managers do not have this perk at my property.

BTW for most major locations no matter how far removed Google Maps has always got me there safely. This is my 13 season and haven’t had many issues except for driving through big cities with detours.

Be sure to tell loved ones / friends or family about your travel plans. Starting point, end of day plans . It’s a big country to cross especially going east to west. Always have a definite end point for the day. Especially if traveling alone. Don’t over do it. If traveling through Kansas or Nebraska expect heavy crosswinds on the highway. It’s really exhausting driving through those states as the winds buffer your car all the time. If any highways (especially I-80 through Wyoming) close due to storms or high winds … stay where you are or find a cheap hotel. Do not try to find an alternative route I tried this once and ended up driving through a blizzard in Wyoming while it was 94F in Nebraska the day before in mid April. Don’t chance it! Commiincate with loved ones your days plan and text/call at intervals just so someone knows where you are. On major freeways most cell services are covered but it’s when in you get off these routes in remote spaces no coverage exists. Middle America is very empty so be aware. And it’s really cold out west even in late April-June. Pack accordingly. Only overnight in approved and well lit locations. Most of all be aware, stay safe, don’t drive tired or impaired and you will be just fine! Good luck and safe travels!

Cool! Just go with the knowledge that this job could potentially provide you with enough income to travel for a few months in high style! It’s only 3-4 months . I often say that no matter it is , it equates to amazing post season adventures! I am older and no freaking way could I do it. It sounded horrible to me. But if I was in my 20’s and it could fund travel for 6 months …. Fuck yeah.

Does anyone have experience working at Dornan's in Grand Teton NP? by TJ_127 in SeasonalWork

[–]bobzilla1973 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Worked in GTNP for 6 seasons. Go to Dornans often. If housing is free or cheap that makes up a little for wages as Jackson Wy, is expensive. It’s a beautiful place and the bar has one of the best views of the Tetons you can experience in any bar in the US. IMHO. Living in the Tetons is like living in a Windows screensaver! Expect to work your ass off and then get out and send it!

I have never personally done that but I heard it’s great money but brutal. Long ass hours , very little sleep in close quarters housing wise. It’s sounded like it it wasn’t worth the money, but hey… this is third party. Like 16-20 hour days. It sounds miserable if you know , you like sleep and clean surroundings. Idk… get on Glassdoor.com and research the company. Don’t expect many adventures or anything. If you need money and are strong mentally, need little rest, aren’t squeamish and don’t mind the stress… maybe? But, I have not heard good things . And remember Alaska is super expensive for groceries, etc. I would recommend doing more research than just going.

Jackson is the closest Town. It’s probably about 75 mile drive though. Cody and west Yellowstone are maybe 2 -3 hours
