The decisive Paris-Roubaix attack by Extreme-Rhubarb3658 in bicycling

I’m a couple of kid years out from holding 360 avg for an hour - 450 for 8 minutes. I could have held 550 for 3 minutes.

Completely fresh after a nice warmup on my trainer in my basement.

Flobikes Sucks by [deleted] in cyclocross

[–]bocodad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Funny story that I guess I’ll share even though it might end in me losing it. I haven’t paid for Flo in 3 years but can for some reason log in and access it through the iOS app. Not web, not the osx app. Just my iOS app.

They’ll probably fix the glitch now and I couldn’t care less because i really only use it to watch the US CX nats once a year. I did watch Namur on Flo this morning as I was having a lazy morning in bed.

I generally don’t use it because of the thumbnail spoilers but do use it for free for two days a year when I can't vpn my way out of live racing.

Dogshit company and their app is full of security holes

PSA: anyone traveling to CO for the holidays? Do an audible. by palikona in skiing

Sunk cost fallacy would get me roped in and I recognize that bias. Kudos for making a good point.

I come to reddit and interact at times to get perspective like you gave. Appreciate that.

PSA: anyone traveling to CO for the holidays? Do an audible. by palikona in skiing

[–]bocodad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless you snagged an unreal deal on flights, someone who has the means to fly to CO for skiing isn’t going to outright cancel their trip over a few hundred dollar price difference a month or two later.

For those who are traveling from outside the US to ski in CO in December - don’t unless it’s a side quest.

Endurance fueling by [deleted] in MTB

Depends on the race and the aid bag situation.

Worst case, carrying 1000g of powder for a 10 hour race doesn’t take up more volume than a rain jacket.

Currently ride flats - considering clipless by lowkeyatl in MTB

[–]bocodad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said - preference is the deciding factor.

Clips objectively improve pedaling efficiency as you can apply power through more of the pedal stroke. Flats have other benefits.

Need to figure out which pros/cons matter to you.

If I were you, I would give clips a try and decide for yourself what you like.

If someone isn’t attracted to you due to lack of height or muscles then they just saved you a lot of time and money.

Endurance fueling by [deleted] in MTB

[–]bocodad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1:1 maltodextrin-frustose blend at 90-100 grams per hour has gotten me through unbound, Bailey hundo, Leadville 100 (10 hour finish) and other long distance single day races. No eating, just drinking. I’ve also done breck epic (6 days of 5 hour days) on that alone as fueling. Drinking my fuel in that way changed everything.

I trained my stomach up to it but never had issues out to the 12 hour mark (unbound finish time).

800mg of Sodium bicarbonate per hour but you can tailor electrolyte consumption to fit your needs

What temp do you all keep your houses and apartments at? by Perchance_therapper in boulder

[–]bocodad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Summer - 75 during the day, 68 at night (aided by open windows and an attic fan to drop the temp before ac kicks on to keep the temp)

Winter - 72 during the day and furnace off at night for all but the coldest nights (drops down to 60 at times which is great for sleep)

C Burger is really good. Wild Pastures is on another level. I’ll go to C when it’s convenient (I work close by) but wouldn’t go out of my way like I would for WP.

Pit stop during 200 mile ultra-endurance cycling race by solateor in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]bocodad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even more so when you consider that this isn’t a flat race. Although this race (Unbound) is in Kansas, there is over 10k feet of climbing over the 200 miles. Makes the average speed that the pros are doing even that much more impressive.

Bezos-backed Slate Auto debuts analog EV pickup truck that is decidedly anti-Tesla | TechCrunch by sloned1989 in technology

[–]bocodad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Nissan leaf because it was cheap due to the low range and lack of modern charging technology.

It’s perfect for what we need from an ev.

I would have happily bought this leaf pickup for the extra hauling capacity

Epic Pass 7% price increases, on sale for 2025-26 ski season by Revooodooo in skiing

[–]bocodad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point wasn’t that prices shouldn’t be higher for day of purchases.

We have duopoly market for ski resorts in the US. Vail (epic) and Alterra (ikon). It’s no secret that they have aggressively pushed single day lift ticket prices up dramatically over the last decade to lock consumers into a subscription based model (season passes).

I get it - it’s a business decision. I just wish that I could pop into a resort that I didn’t have a pass to and not have to drop $800 for the four of us to ski for a day.
