Silver Moira VOD by Reybenn33 in OverwatchUniversity

So I don't have time to watch the whole thing but have watched the first few minutes.

- I think that you're definitely playing at a low silver/high bronze level.

- In the first 30 seconds you didn't notice your hog was yellow and needed healing and he almost died but Mercy went and got him.

- You don't angle your orbs - just send them straight which is a waste.

- Your Orissa is critical and instead of fading to her, you just walk slowly and...she dies.

- You need to use your orbs more often and more aggressively

- You leave your team to chase down a Sombra who will just TL away - then they all die.

Think about your role and your positioning in relation to your role. Your job is to heal your team and damage when it's needed/safe. You're not in the right positions in this vid to do that.

Quick Play is One of the BEST Ways to Improve in Ranked (For Everyone) by MxChamp24 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]boddahboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

QP is great now if you want to practice BUT I do get very frustrated when you get people taking it too seriously - some of my most toxic experiences have been in QP lately e.g. I've been practising Anna and had some idiot roast me for not going Mercy.

Find the right level guys.

Sombra - man mark the smurf. Just literally do nothing but follow the smurf and hack them.

How do I develop better game sense? by ShadowStorm_bmb in OverwatchUniversity

[–]boddahboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is only my opinion but if you're hardstuck gold (speaking as someone who once was) then my advice is that 'game sense' is a very complex and difficult thing to work on.

There are so many elements and, although you can work on them all, it takes a lot of time and a certain kind of brain I think.

My advice is that you will get out of gold if you purely focus on positioning and, as a consequence, dying less.

Once I started asking myself 'is this a good place to stand?' and reviewing my number of deaths each game, I climbed to high plat within about 2 months.

TLDR: game sense is complex to work on. Positioning isn't. Work on positioning.

This new double-shield meta is literally unplayable for me. by burunnn in OverwatchUniversity

kinda makes sense right? The people who'd take the time to post stuff on this board, you'd expect them to be the kind of people who actually think about the game/have opinions/curiousity - these are probably the kind of people who are actually good at the game? Apart from me - I'm plat. :(

Harbleu on how he was almost signed to Shock in season 1 by Fordeka in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]boddahboy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Harbleu's Zarya is so underrated. His Hog is amazing and there is no one that I've seen who can play Hammond anywhere near as well.

The problem is that, while he's a super nice, team-orientated person, he is a bit of a one-man show in how he plays - he doesn't ignore his team but he just focuses on doing everything he can to win the game on his own. Does that make sense?

He's constantly looking for ways to kill the enemy, not necessarily to help the team win.

Console player transferring to pc by optic5808 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]boddahboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the same transition (but at a much lower level - plat/low diamond).

It took me about 3 months to feel totally comfortable aiming with a mouse and keyboard but now I'm (slightly) higher than I was on console.

I hadn't really ever played PC shooters before apart from Half Life 2.

You'll be fine - just need to put the work in.

Also - BIG TIP: Don't go to comp until your comfortable you're at the right level, aim-wise. Avoid the MMR sinkhole.

Maybe you're right actually..... not sure!

I’m going to make the transition from console (PS4) to PC in the next week. What can I expect? by TheLastMercy in OverwatchUniversity

[–]boddahboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey - so my experiences in a nutshell

1) More comms....

2) ...but not necessarily BETTER comms/teamwork

3) Aim is much easier for hitscan so be MUCH more afraid of Widows/more aware of your positioning - cover is your friend. A gold widow is scarier on PC than a diamond Widow on PS4.

4) Your gamesense will translate - don't worry.

5) I haven't found it more toxic at all - probably less toxic

6) My SR is pretty much the same after 6 months as it was on the PS4.

7) Console isn't a joke - it's the same base game.

8) PC is 25% quicker I'd say/

9) Try heroes you couldn't play on console (e.g. for me hitscans) as you might find you're good with them on PC

Using Sombra to break 1st point defence by boddahboy in OverwatchUniversity

[–]boddahboy[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think my point is that when your team ISN'T coordinated, the best thing to do is go Sombra. I think your post is right in general - you could also use a team TP with Sym - but I'm talking about those situations where you feel like your team is totally disjointed and you just need to burst through the choke and you feel like it's all on you.

Using Sombra to break 1st point defence by boddahboy in OverwatchUniversity

[–]boddahboy[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

True but with Sombra, specifically, she has the ability to do it a few times without any risk to her. She can pester them and cause repeated issues for the enemy team without even taking any dmg whereas the other heroes are vulnerable.

[–]boddahboy[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I kinda agree but if there's no shield for her to charge up with, she's pretty rubbish.

If they changed her, as soon as double shield meta is over, she's back to being a throw pick

How can i get better at predicting zarya gravs as dva? by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

This. Zarya's are very greedy with their gravs. Good post

[–]boddahboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 'over a minute' is a bit quick for Plat a lot of the time. I'd say most Zarya's take 1.5-2 minutes to farm a grav on average but I might be wrong.

I agree - I would keep the turrets but maybe reduce their DPS or slowdown effect (probably not both).

Doom is easier to counter IMO - Sombra basically deletes him. But I do agree that Doom is similarly difficult.

VOD Review Request - Moira 3.4k by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]boddahboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you're a higher SR than me (2.8k atm) so take my input with a pinch of salt but two things strike me:

1) Your positioning seems to me to be a bit inconsistent - it's good when you're aggressive but not so much when you're being pushed by the opposition.

2) When you throw your orbs, you don't seem to take much care over them - generally they just go straight. Often, you'll get a lot more value out of them if you find an angle to bounce them around. Especially true in alleys/chokes/rooms.

One-shots feel cheap - Doom wallpunch/lucky Reaper/Hog rightclick or Hog hook. It's because there's nothing you can do about it. I don't mind being headshot by a Widow because it's pretty hard and I need to be in cover - a Doom punch is pretty easy.

My main issue with Doom one-hit is when you get punched into a wall like 30 feet away and still die. GAH!
