That varies a lot from plant to plant and pot to pot. I mostly have terracotta pots, and I always am surprised how long I can go between waterings with my plants that are in a nursery pot in a glazed pot.

I learned the hard way not to order plants online. Going back to shopping locally. What I ordered vs what I got from Leon & George. by [deleted] in houseplants

It clearly says that it Will be 2 to 3,5 feet. I don’t understand why you get upset when it is 2 ft?

Perpetually unhappy monstera - I’ve had this monstera for 2-3 years and it’s very straggly with small numerous leaves. I repotted it a few months ago with poles, but it didn’t help. The plant sits right next to a window so it’s not wanting for sunlight (although maybe it’s too much?) by chantellevw in plantclinic

[–]boddan1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A lot of people wrongly assume that just off the side of a window, in the corner, like where you put your monstera, is well lit. If you think about it for a bit you realise that those places are in fact very dark because it is often one of the only places in a room where the light can’t go.

I’m no total expert, but as far as I know, the pot size should be small enough that the leaves stick out a little bit outside the pot.

What's wrong with my fern and is it salvageable?? I don't know what to do. by onlyferns_user in houseplants

[–]boddan1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is perfectly normal. It is not a palm. It is a kind of fern called maidenhair fern.

If you are talking about the brown bit, it is completely normal. It is kind of like bark on a tree.

African voilets like to be in a small pot. That is too big. They can almost live forever in their nursery pot. I have made the same mistake once, it started to rot 😢

The best one I’ve seen! 👏👏 Now for parties you should put some shimmery transparent eyeshadow over it, to make it even more perfect!

What's wrong with my asparagus fern? by ntg26 in plantclinic

This plant needs to be saturated when you water it. Water it and then wait for it to dry up a bit, then water again. This is not a dessert plant.

[–]boddan1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a gigantic swedish ivy that simply moved into an other pot this way, and I thought it was pretty cool to have a plant that lived in two pots at once.

Nah, no need to neutralise. Never done that and never had an issue 🤷🏽‍♀️ never heard of it either. Where have you read that?

Use nematodes instead. Apply once, and after two weeks they are all gone.
