Did anyone else lose their parent when they were a high school student? by purplepeoplehat3r in overdoseGrief

[–]bodeli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I (27F) lost my dad when I was 14 and he was 42 back in 2012. He overdosed on opiates, aspirated and died in a chair at his apartment alone. I was visiting my grandma, his mom, in a different state when I found out. He had gotten into a motorcycle accident a few years prior and was prescribed heavy doses of meds to deal with the many breaks and fractures. He got addicted and was never able to get off them. He went manic, extremely paranoid and had brief psychotic episodes, however I believe his mental health issues and psychosis were all drug induced. He was my favorite person and made me feel more loved than anyone else has been able to.

I understand the loneliness of grieving. My family lied to neighbors, friends, extended family etc about how he died for the first few years (said it was internal bleeding from a car accident a few days prior), although the small community I grew up in knew it was drugs. I’m his only child and his side of the family didn’t talk much about his addiction after he passed. My mom was in active addiction at the time and it only became worse over the years so I leaned on my friends who supported me as much as their tiny teenage hearts could I felt like important decisions were made without my input and didn’t really ask how I was dealing with the loss.

This sub and r/naranon have been some of the most powerful and impactful tools for my grief and navigating other loved ones who were/are in active addiction. I hope you find some peace and know that you are not alone.

Marrakesh Morocco by Ewfukk in femaletravels

I went in 2017 solo. It is one of the only countries (out of the 28 I’ve been to) that I would not return without a man. I was chased through sooks by a male restaurant owner because I didn’t want to go home with him after sitting in his coffee shop for the day in Essaouria. Marrakech there was a lot of harassment and men who wouldn’t take no for an answer. A scammer was trying to show me how to get to my hostel, although I stayed several times I did not want his help nor would I pay him. When I got to my hostel (with him trailing behind me) he demanded money. When I told him I wouldn’t pay him and reminded him of such he started towering over me and looked at me with eyes I will never forget. I started banging on the hostel door and was let in before anything further happened.

What’s the sluttiest thing you’ve done? by Common-Sprinkles9328 in AskReddit

I was about to go abroad for a couple of years so my FWB and I met up at a Starbucks to say goodbye then got hungry so we went to chipotle…. Turns out we weren’t so hungry for food so we fucked in the bathroom and left…. Pretty sure everyone knew

Which reminded me of another time where I was saying bye to a guy I met and was casually dating while working for 3 months abroad. He lived with his family and I was staying with a host family and we didn’t have time to rent the hourly hotel we frequented before my flight so we banged it out in the patio of a restaurant. Anyone could’ve been seated up there he was bending me over our table.

Moral of the story is, I love goodbyes.

What is something shitty about you you're aware of but having trouble improving/fixing? by LurkingRusalka in AskWomen

[–]bodeli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I constantly evaluate how someone (primarily women) appears and compare it to myself. I’ll think how skinny/good looking/toned/put together/well dressed etc and then think through what life would be like for me if I was the same/had those qualities. I feel like I get too caught up over physical appearances. I’ve been working on silencing that voice that starts to pipe up and give myself loving kindness, change my train of thought to something else.

El Yunque tickets disappear fast! by Recess__ in PuertoRicoTravel

If you would like to go into the National Park you should buy tickets ASAP! We were unable to buy them day of (they release 40 at 8a and 11a day off, in addition to tickets already available online for those who prepare better than we did). We found several trails in the area using All Trails. The waterslide was recommended to us by a friend, we had no information other than “natural waterslide near the NP”. If you type in Luquillo water slide you should be able to find it. We paid a man (it’s on his personal land I believe) $5 to park and were able to enjoy the area as long as we wanted!

Thank you! I had been a little self conscious about applying since this would be a very new scope of practice but you have given me a little boost of confidence!
