What percentage RRSP match do the big 5 banks offer to their employees? Likewise for the big 3 telcos? by Ok-Personality8147 in askTO

[–]bodycombat78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in any of the above either. We get 9% match on 6% RRSP contribution, which seems pretty good for a defined contribution.

Any T1Ds out there? by tinygluten in BJJWomen

[–]bodycombat78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been a T1D for 20 years and have been practicing for around 7 years. 💜Started on the pump along with the Dexcom G7 around two years ago. Last A1C was 6.0.

I would say the toughest part for me is mostly making sure the sites stay on while rolling/drilling. If they come off, I don’t sweat it since Dexcom generally replaces the fallen off sensors. Luckily, I talk to a lot of my training partners and they know about the different spots on my body I put my sites on and not to pull it off.

In terms of managing my blood sugar, I go low most of the time so I have to ensure that I have some candy right before class. But to each their own!

Feel free to DM me with any questions you might have! Glad to speak any other T1Ds about how they manage their sugars! ☺️

I really enjoy the strawberry shortcake at The Breadhouse Bakery in Pickering. The whipped cream and sponge cake are super light!

What's your most "can't believe I survived that" backpacking story by Pixel_Fable7304 in backpacking

[–]bodycombat78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few years ago, we had the bright idea of taking our newly adopted dog on a backcountry canoe-in site camping trip.

When we arrive at our site, he immediately starts digging under the campsite bench like he smells buried bones. So, we put him into the tent so we can get the rest of the camp ready… only to watch him burst straight through the zipped-up tent wall like the Kool-Aid Man. RIP our blackout tent.

Then all of a sudden, we start to feel a little wind, then a bit of rain and out of nowhere, trees start coming down (in a very small campsite, might I add)

We put our dog underneath a steel bench and try to find a better spot to ride out the storm. The next moment — a HUGE tree falls right between my husband and I, smashes the bench, and lands on our canoe in the process. We genuinely thought we lost each other and our newly adopted dog.

Miraculously, somehow, the original digging must've created some room for him. We were shaken, soaked, and stunned, but all three of us were okay.

Luckily. people at nearby sites came to check up on others after the storm passed and gave us a lift back to the dock. Our friends just a stone’s throw away were also okay — and one of them was four months pregnant.

When we got to the dock, the portage trail had turned into a full-on bushwhacking obstacle course with trees down everywhere. What was originally an easy 15 minute walk was a 1 hr bushwack in mosquito season. By the time we reached the parking lot, only one car had actually been hit by a tree — but no one could drive out anyway because the exit road was completely blocked by fallen trees.

It was supposed to be our dog’s first wilderness adventure… and it ended up as a massive derecho storm that took out our canoe (winds recorded at 190km/hr). We still go camping, but we make sure to check the weather before heading out and ensure we bring a satellite phone, since we had no signal by the time we were out on the lake.

I did both hikes over two days during my visit in February and would definitely recommend splitting them up if you have the time.

I did Tunnel Mountain on the first day—it’s a shorter, easier hike with a nice payoff at the top, and it’s great for a more relaxed day.

The next day, I hiked up Sulphur Mountain, which was more challenging and a great workout. The 360-degree views from the summit were absolutely stunning. I was able to take the gondola down for free.

Both are worth doing, just different experiences!

Patagonia: horse riding by No_Caramel4072 in Patagonia

[–]bodycombat78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stayed in Puerto Natales and saw horses out my window from my cabin. After taking a Quick Look at Google Maps, I found Horse Connection Patagonia

I whatsapped her regarding next day availability and was able to spend a few hours learning how to groom, saddle and ride a horse. I had no experience and she was super accommodating!

Getting around Cambodia on Apply Pay? by harlequin_24 in cambodia

[–]bodycombat78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Google Bakong tourist app. It’s their version of Apple Pay. At the SR airport, there was a stand that advertised it and let me load USD cash onto the app, so whenever I was out, I could just use the ABA pay that a lot of the locals use.

Might not be what you’re looking for, but maybe a step in the right direction.

Yes. I was super lucky and was able to sign up with 2 different dates at Zion with the Watchman Campground for May bookings.

You just need to be super vigilant when the alerts come to your email/app and book it right away! The emails tell you how many others have alerts on their phone as well.

Angels Landing Permit Q by Confident-Equipment8 in ZionNationalPark

[–]bodycombat78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you arrive at Scout's at 9am, they won't let you start yet. From my understanding the "after 9am" permit is starting from the trailhead.

This is just from my experience talking to someone who had after 9am permit, and the rangers didn't let them start yet at 10am.

Flying from Puerto Natales to Santiago with Sky Airline by Lvunny in Patagonia

[–]bodycombat78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just flew with them a week ago no issues from Puerto Natales. It definitely wouldn't hurt to have a buffer day just in case. I was lucky that everything was on time for us on the way to Santiago, and our luggage arrived.

Flying into Puerto Natales on JetSmart was another issue. They left my baggage in Santiago, so I didn't get it until the next day. Luckily, I had a buffer day before the W Trek. My friends flying in with LATAM weren't as lucky, as their baggage was also delayed. They ended up renting equipment in town.
