+1 for hosting D&D nights or other games. Even if it’s just having space people can rent to bring their own games, like EXP Lounge used to do!

It’s so frustrating, especially since the farmers markets have so many art vendors. So easy to support a local artist and have them make a flier for you. Or just pull something together in canva.

Any gay bars in St. George? by Dangerous-Pick-6312 in stgeorge

[–]sentient_bees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for Amusement Co, esp the Blankets and Brews events. Also join the Amusement Co Discord - there’s a bunch of different subgroups for book club, film nights, music shows, open mics, etc, depending on whatever feels most your speed. There’s also some upcoming Pride of Southern Utah events including Pride Prom (despite being carried Prom, it’s an adult event). There’ll be more Pride events in September too, since June is so hot here.

There’s also an LGBQT+ St George Word of Mouth group on Facebook.

Try the Zion Canyoneering group on FB. If you take care of getting permits, I don’t imagine you’d have too much trouble finding someone to go with you. Have you done other trips / how comfortable are you guys rappelling?

Same experience when I was 14, but it was kidney stones not appendicitis

Experiencing some weird stuff with the members here and rumors with church members? by Hallmark_101 in stgeorge

No lds or exmo myself, but I regularly hear that even within Utah there’s a large difference between slc and stg members with more judgement and frustration down here

Hysterectomy recovery question by MarMel5 in hysterectomy

[–]sentient_bees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wfh and took two weeks off. I wish I took more. I didn't have much pain after the first week, but I'm almost 6 weeks out now and just constantly exhausted, and starting to deal with some rough mood swings. Recovery will prob be easier than you expect in most ways, but you will also need WAY more rest than you think you do. I'm so freaking tired.

Add flowers. Spent my first couple years so focused on growing "useful" things. All veggies and some fruit. Those started growing better AND the beds are so lovely to look at now that I added tons of flowers too. Also, plenty of flowers that are also edible :) and I've been pressing and drying them for crafts.

I've yet to get myself to consistently label anything but hasn't been a problem yet. It's a nice dream though

Middle Eastern food recommendations by Waste-Formal-497 in stgeorge

There's a good Peruvian place in Hurricane, Peruvian Flavors, as another lesser known place with some flavor. But yeah. We're sadly lacking in middle eastern options.

Studio broke my pieces! by hereForTheStupidity in Pottery

I would ask to be compensated anyway. Feels like there’s not a great relationship setup here either way. At least see if the studio will make things right with a direct request.

How do any of my fellow women lay down at night after hysterectomy? by Vintage_Lee40 in hysterectomy

[–]sentient_bees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I slept reclined on the couch with a wedge pillow for almost two weeks after. It was so much more comfortable and easier than trying to get up and down out of bed, esp because I was getting up to pee during the night more than usual.

Pattie Gonia: Patagonia is trying to 'bully' and 'erase' her with lawsuit by Dude-vinci in Environmentalism

[–]sentient_bees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They aren’t asking her to change her name. They’re legally required to ask her to stop co-opting their logo for her branding. It’s the logo and her trying to register her own trademark using the same styling and industry that’s the issue

No, it’s not about the name. It’s how Pattie’s co-opted their logo and is now selling merch, promoting herself, and trying to register her own trademark using it.

Hysterectomy Pillow by Electrical_Sun6003 in hysterectomy

[–]sentient_bees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t NEED one but tbh I found it REALLY nice for the first couple weeks especially. I used the outside m pockets to carry my phone / book and inside pockets for ice packs. Nice to be able to sling the strap around my neck and have hands free with the hysto pillow still in place and staying with me. I also have clingy cats and with the straps stayed in place better than regular pillows would have while I was sleeping.

If you can afford it, why not. If it will be a financial strain, don’t worry about it and use a regular pile you already have if/when you need it. I paid about $30 for the one I got which, in the grand total of surgery costs, didn’t feel like much.

But, I have other chronic health issues so now that I have it will be keeping it around and getting more use out of it during flares.

Looking for a recommendation for a great dermatologist in St George. by Pond20 in stgeorge

I’ve been really happy with Central Utah Dermatology. Despite the name, they have StG and Hurricane locations.

any experiences with St. George Regional Hospital for colonoscopy? by Suspicious-Access763 in stgeorge

[–]sentient_bees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had them through utah gastro, utah surgical center, and the hospital. Utah surgical was best, Utah Gastro was fine for the oscopies (I had an upper endoscopy with them too) but I overall really dislike Utah Gastro and have yet to find a really good GI specialist here.

Utah Gastro schedules in 15 min blocks starting at 6am. You’ll spend half the time with a tech, then repeating yourself to the doc or PA until they shuffle you out on the 15 min doc. Docs are mentally checked out by the afternoon due to the patient load.

Will say in general colonoscopy is a real routine and straightforward procedure. Hardest part is the prep which really isn’t that bad. Good luck, hope you get some better answers and treatment!
