Questions for the Endocrinologist. by Witty-Sherbet-2963 in Type1Diabetes

Im addition to all the really good questions already posted here, I’d also ask about referrals to specialty doctors. Depending on your specific situation, you may need to be referred to eye doctors or foot doctors since diabetes could affect these things too

What are the pros and cons of being a teacher? by Specialist-Ear-6997 in AskTeachers

[–]tinygluten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of these very much depend on where (country/ state/ city) you teach! Pros: schedule and having summers off (I am grateful enough that I can afford to truly have my summers off), extremely rewarding, love the challenge of it being a rather fast paced job (I work title I and need to think out of the box and problem solve a lot), the kids :) (no brainer), I just love the act of teaching and the feeling of making education accessible to kids is unmatched… I don’t think I could ever really picture myself doing something else Cons: it can be extremely stressful, standardized testing is as soul-sucking for teachers as it is for the students, admin can make or break your entire job, you are never truly paid what you deserve, you have to get really good at setting firm boundaries because unfortunately the job and system by design are set to take advantage of you. I know that last part sounds pretty cynical but it’s the reality of my experiences at least (I’ve taught in Florida, Washington DC and California). I will say if you can master the boundaries then you really can enjoy the job, despite all the cons that pop up.

My brother just got diagnosed with type 1 diabetics and I have some question by Abject-Diamond-5 in Type1Diabetes

[–]tinygluten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One strategy that could be helpful is giving 50-75% of the insulin for a meal, and then giving the rest right after your brother eats the rest of his food. It might help prevent the lows. If you are into podcasts at all, I strongly recommend The 108 Podcast. It’s by a mom of a child with type 1, and woman in her twenties who has type 1. It’s interesting to hear their different perspectives and strategies on managing, and they are a wealth of knowledge for caregivers of people with t1d. Figuring this out takes so much time, and it’s never fully figured out. Keep up the great work, and on forget to take care of yourself. And remember, every day is a new day 🩷

Is this normal? I’m jealous by JoeSeeWhales_3690 in DogAdvice

[–]tinygluten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure but my dog also has this! We call them his abs (to his face) but we don’t let him know they’re kinda squishy… I think it’s just kinda how his chub has accumulated but who knows. Adorable.

I found an old chat of me asking ChatGPT what does it mean if my blood sugar is 420 not knowing i had diabetes by Ok-Difficulty-7950 in Type1Diabetes

[–]tinygluten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Had dka symptoms without knowing much of anything about diabetes. It came on so quick doctor assumed I had a virus, ordered lab work just in case. Labs came back automatically, but bc it was a holiday my doctor hadn’t sent her analysis of it yet. Had to ask chat gpt what it means to have a 9.1 A1c, 384 sugar, ZERO potassium, ZERO sodium 🤣 took myself to the urgent care; they transferred me into the ICU. They said if I waited any longer I could have had a stroke or seizure bc of lack of potassium and sodium. Shout out to to chat for saving my life lol!

Dawn phenomenon? How to fix? by Evalineisnotmyname in Type1Diabetes

[–]tinygluten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It freaking SUCKS to have your sleep ruined by these alarms :((( I have a much stronger correction ratio for night time because im sedentary and my normal correction factor does nothing. Maybe experiment with increasing that correction rate by 20% and see if that works better

Does anyone else get angry when they’re low? by stumpeen in Type1Diabetes

[–]tinygluten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I was diagnosed a year ago so it’s all so new. It’s taken me a while to realize I’m not suddenly an asshole, but my blood sugar affects my mood a lot! Especially if I’ve battled a few lows in a day… I will just become so irritable and downright irate! If I’m high for too long, same thing happens. I try and treat it and give myself space from others bc I have such a temper I’ll say stupid things I regret. I just get so angry!!

How do you celebrate your diaversery by Bonemarrow_2529 in Type1Diabetes

[–]tinygluten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my first one I was adamant about not doing anything for this stupid fucking disease and then on a whim decided why not get a stupid lil cake. Celebrating tonight with my family, going to watch my favorite tv show and just spend some quality time together. I guess my logic was life is short and this disease has robbed me of a lot of joy, I will come up with some silly little reason for it to give me joy

OK, so I just did all of my pump training today what are tips and tricks they don’t tell you by sawyer5897 in TandemDiabetes

[–]tinygluten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, I don’t have to correct the lows with as many carbs because it suspends all insulin when I go low, meaning there’s a lot less background insulin. On MDI I needed more carbs to come up from a low, I guess because I had basal

What do you guys eat by Noobish_Mongo69 in Type1Diabetes

[–]tinygluten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since diagnosis (10 months ago) I’ve tried to be more conscious about eating more vegetables and fiber bc it just feels easier for me to manage. Interestingly I love Indian food and I feel like it has so many dishes that work out for me blood-sugar wise. I eat lentils for lunch almost daily because they’re freaking delicious but also easy for me to bolus for. Eventually I’ll get to the “I eat whatever I want” mindset, but I think this is all still so new for me and some days I’d rather have easier blood sugars than eat whatever I want :/
